Hello everyone, I’m currently planning my new kitchen with Ikea Metod base cabinets and looking for really clever solutions to optimize storage space as efficiently as possible. I’m especially interested in practical tips that go beyond standard shelves, such as how to smartly use the interior space with modular inserts, adjustable dividers, drawer organizers, or specialized organization systems. Experiences with additions like pull-out trays, swing-out or fold-up mechanisms would also be great to hear about. The goal is to maximize space for kitchen utensils, supplies, or small items within the often limited cabinet depths of Metod, without losing overview or making accessibility difficult. How do you structure your Metod base cabinets, which accessories or hacks have convinced you, and where might there be potential pitfalls? I’m looking forward to your individual solutions and opinions!

Simply use the Ikea interior pull-out for Metod base cabinets, which helps organize pots and pans. It’s also worth investing in a cutlery tray that covers the entire drawer and leaves no dead corners. For taller items, I use pull-outs with adjustable height – this provides more flexibility.

To optimize storage space in Ikea Metod base cabinets, I recommend a systematic approach: first, precisely measure the cabinet’s interior height and depth to select suitable internal drawers and inserts. Modular organization systems that can be customized—such as adjustable dividers or drawer inserts with various compartments—are particularly effective. I also suggest defining the cabinet’s intended use: pantry, dishware, or cooking utensils. With a well-planned setup, you can consider the following points, for example: - Internal drawers for greater convenience in deep cabinets - Use of pull-out containers and boxes - Cutlery inserts that better organize space and improve access - Systems with raised sidewalls in drawers for better visibility. A common mistake is overfilling without clear organization, which significantly reduces accessibility. Structure and clarity are crucial here.

I can easily understand how frustrating it can be to look into the kitchen and feel like the storage space is not being used efficiently. I experienced something similar with my Metod system, which is why I tried out many different solutions.

That sums it up perfectly. This is why I started sorting everything by category and frequency of use, and I got rid of items that are rarely needed. Using adjustable inserts and flexible dividers, I was able to adapt the base cabinets better to my needs. It is important to me that the drawers are easy to access and that nothing shifts around. Anyone who also uses the right accessories—such as non-slip mats or small boxes—will experience less stress. I hope this experience motivates you to make some changes!

I believe the challenge always lies in the fact that Ikea Metod base cabinets have standardized depths, but the actual usable height and depth are often not optimally utilized. My solution was to install hanging rails for smaller baskets in addition to the proven internal drawers, which can be placed where dead corners would otherwise form.

That’s exactly what I did: I organized frequently used items into small removable boxes, which also makes cleaning easier. For anyone needing flexible storage, I also recommend adjustable drawer inserts that can be rearranged as needed. This way, I keep the space adaptable and can store unusually shaped items as well. I wish you great success with your optimization!
