Hello everyone,

I am currently planning to redesign my home office and want to optimally integrate the IKEA Besta system. My idea is for it to provide storage space for documents, technology such as printers and routers, while also serving as a space-saving and visually appealing furnishing. I am mainly looking for a solution that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing, as I frequently use my workspace for video conferences.

I have the following questions:
- Which BESTA combinations or modules are particularly suitable for storing technology and files?
- Are there any recommendations for arrangement (e.g., on the wall, as a room divider, or under-desk solution)?
- Which additional elements (e.g., doors, drawers, lighting) are helpful to make my home office look professional?
- Do you have any personal tips for cable management within BESTA?

I appreciate all practical advice.

Best regards!

When integrating IKEA BESTA into a home office, it is important to first clearly define your requirements. For technology and files, I recommend the following points:

- A combination of closed cabinets with doors for files and open shelves for quick access.
- Modules with drawers are useful for small items such as cables, pens, and accessories.
- Arranging the units along the wall is efficient, leaving the floor space free.
- For a professional look, high-gloss doors with integrated lighting (LED strips) create a neat and modern appearance.
- Cable management works best with cable channels built into the interior of the BESTA units. You can also use Velcro straps or cable holders as needed.

A combination of at least 120cm (47 inches) in width with a height-adjustable desk (not part of BESTA but combined) is often recommended.

Additional to Joshbe:

- An open compartment is suitable for printers and routers to ensure adequate ventilation.
- Cabinet units with doors should be placed in the lower area to allow easy accessibility.
- Room dividers with BESTA cabinets work well if both sides can be used, which is practical in open-plan layouts.
- Installing power strips behind or inside the BESTA cabinets can further simplify cable management.

It is important to check beforehand which BESTA depths (40 cm (16 inches) or 20 cm (8 inches)) are available to ensure that devices will fit inside.

- Place technical equipment in open compartments.
- Store files in closed cabinets.
- Bundle cables with Velcro straps.
- Install LED lighting under shelves.

This keeps everything neat and functional.

I recommend the following optimizations for the BESTA system in your home office:

- Use a combination of low and tall units to create both a desk area and storage space.
- Choose fronts with a matte or high-gloss finish to achieve a professional look.
- For cable management, IKEA cable clips provide a simple solution; it’s also possible to route cables through the back panels of the BESTA units.
- To make the most of your space, consider installing wall shelves above the BESTA units, for storing small devices or decorations.

These tips helped me set up a neat and functional home office with BESTA.

It’s interesting how many people rely on the “classic” use of BESTA. In my opinion, the system is far too limited if you only depend on the prefabricated modules.

To me, these often seem more like a quick fix. If you want a truly professional result, it’s better to invest in standalone cable troughs or cable channels that can be concealed along the wall.

For a professional look, ceiling panels with high-gloss finish and integrated lighting help

Lighting is good, but please also consider ergonomics and seating position. A workspace with overly colorful lighting is more distracting than professional.

I recommend seeing BESTA more as a basic framework that needs to be customized and adapted to the room layout, rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach.
