Good evening,

I have been thinking for a few days about how to restore our parquet flooring, which is quite worn in some areas.

Do I need to sand it down completely, or are there other options? Honestly, I’m a bit hesitant about the amount of work involved 😀

Thanks for your advice

You can even ask the contractor!
They can sand your floor for very little money using a floor sander, and you just need to move your furniture into another room!

Hello Peter,

I didn’t mean to sand... I thought I would get some "household tips" on this topic 😉

Refinishing - polishing

Hello,

You can also have the parquet floor refreshed. Is the parquet lacquered or oiled?

If oiled, then possibly do a deep clean first and then re-oil. If lacquered, then polish with parquet polish.

The best approach is to sand it down using a floor sander and then reseal it completely. If you don’t have a machine, you can rent one at a hardware store.

That doesn’t make much sense if the rest of the parquet floor is still in perfect condition and only a few spots are worn. Sanding the entire floor down probably isn’t really worth it in that case, right? If the parquet is made of wood, you can try using hot steam (a steam iron). The steam might help the compressed wood fibers to lift again.

So: turn the steam iron to full power, place a soft, heat-resistant cloth underneath as protection, and hold it for 4 to 10 seconds.

It’s worth a try.
