Hello everyone, I am currently facing the challenge of making an Ikea Metod kitchen with handle grooves look visually more modern. The cabinets are generally very functional, but I find that the handle grooves often appear somewhat outdated or too industrial. I am interested in how the overall look can be significantly modernized during installation or with simple adjustments. I am not only thinking about changes to the fronts or colors but also design options like lighting, décor, or small modifications to the handle groove itself. Does anyone have tips on how to achieve a contemporary and cohesive look with relatively little effort? I would appreciate it if you could share your experiences or ideas.

I think the best way to make Metod kitchens with recessed handles look modern is:

- Choose matte lacquered fronts
- Install LEDs, including behind the countertop
- Avoid adding extra handles whenever possible

With little effort, this creates a clean design.

I understand that the topic of visual modernization for recessed-handle kitchens concerns some people. It was also challenging for me to find the right balance.

Why do people accept recessed handles in the first place when you could easily update them to a more modern design with handle strips or handle rails?

Personally, I was worried that it might reduce functionality or ruin the clean look. But after trying out several options, I can say that a small metal handle strip that fits exactly over the recess can really enhance it without losing the minimalist feel.

However, it is definitely important to coordinate the materials with each other so it doesn’t look pieced together.

I also think good LED lighting adds a lot to the coziness and modernity, especially during the day, when indirect light creates a very high-quality atmosphere.

My tip: With Metod handleless cabinets, it’s better to use subtle color contrasts. For example, combine light-colored carcasses with darker fronts. This adds depth.

A good LED lighting inside the handles, which also serve as grips, can help as well.

Anything else can quickly look too cluttered.
