Hello everyone,

Some time ago, I purchased a kitchen with the Metod system from Ikea and am now looking for reliable tips on long-term care of the kitchen fronts. I am especially interested in how to clean the surface materials—whether lacquer, melamine, or foil—gently and effectively without damaging or wearing them out.

Which cleaning products and methods are suitable for daily cleaning as well as occasional thorough maintenance? Are there any specific practices or substances I should definitely avoid to prevent discoloration, scratches, or other wear? I look forward to your experiences and recommendations, as I want to enjoy my kitchen for as long as possible.

I can confirm that aggressive cleaners can cause significant damage to Metod fronts. It is always advisable to test cleaning products on an inconspicuous area first.

Additionally, I recommend removing fingerprints with a slightly damp microfiber cloth and using small amounts of mild cleaners for more stubborn dirt.

Also, avoid standing water on the edges, as the material there is more susceptible to swelling.

Summary:
- Soft cloth, mild dish soap
- No abrasive cleaners
- No acetone or denatured alcohol
- Rinse and wipe dry

This will keep you on the safe side.

Just to add a quick note, avoid cleaning cloths with microfibers that might shed lint or scratch. Instead, use a high-quality, soft microfiber cloth.

One more tip: If the kitchen cabinets are located near the stove, you can treat the surfaces every few weeks with a mild care spray for plastics. This creates a light protective layer against grease buildup.

I would like to add that with foil fronts, people often make the mistake of scrubbing too hard when stains appear. In these cases, a gentle approach using warm water and a dish sponge usually works best.

There are also special mild cleaners for foil that can be used safely without damaging or softening the foil.

Could you please specify which cleaning agents you would avoid? For example, acetone, alcohol, or certain common household kitchen cleaners?

Certainly! Acetone, denatured alcohol, turpentine, bleach, ammonia-based cleaners, and chlorine-containing products are a no-go – they often damage the coating on Metod fronts. Oven cleaners or strong degreasers should also be avoided, as they can dull or damage the surface.

For greasy stains, I recommend a mix of warm water and a drop of mild dish soap.

I fully agree; this method cleans effectively while being gentle on materials. Always follow up by wiping with clean water!
