-Agricultural land (undeveloped, not allowed to be developed) 6050m² (65082 sq ft)
-2 owners (not married, not related, both German citizens residing in Germany)
-Photovoltaic-powered (approx. 1m² (11 sq ft)) groundwater pump on the property

Unfortunately, there is no landowner liability insurance available for this, as the property is located in the Netherlands. Otherwise, it would be insured.

However, there is now the possibility that this could be covered by a private liability insurance policy. There are some that insure properties in Europe (NL) up to this size (often less than 10,000m² (107,639 sq ft)), including photovoltaic systems.

If one of the two takes out such a private liability insurance policy, is that sufficient? In other words, are both property owners then insured against third-party claims for damages? For example, if someone gets an electric shock from the photovoltaic battery, or a branch falls on someone’s head from a fruit tree on the field, or a manure heap catches fire and burns down the neighbor’s house.

Or does the private liability insurance only cover half of the damage since only one of the two property owners was insured?
Or can a third party approach property owner A (without this private liability insurance) and require them to cover the damage, even if property owner B would settle the damage via their insurance?

Thanks!

So, we only took out one building insurance policy, even though there are two owners. I don’t think it will be different in your case.
However, these are questions you need to ask your insurance provider.
