Maubrendon8 Jul 2023 18:47I am currently planning to install my IKEA Metod kitchen and am focusing on attaching the plinths (kickboards). Therefore, my question to the community is: How do I install the IKEA Metod plinths precisely so that they fit flush with the base cabinets and avoid visible gaps or instability? I am especially interested in tips for accurate measuring, alignment, as well as advice on possible fastening methods and tool use. Additionally, I would like to know the best way to compensate for uneven floors to ensure a clean finish of the plinths. I look forward to detailed advice and shared experiences to achieve a professional result.
For the precise installation of the IKEA Metod baseboards, careful measurement of the distances between the cabinets is essential. Metod baseboards are designed to be fastened with plug connectors and clips that provide a secure and flush connection. The recommended procedure is as follows: - First, adjust the length of the baseboards by cutting them to size with a fine saw. - Mount the clips at the designated points, ensuring they sit level with the floor. - Press the baseboards onto the clips proportionally until they click into place audibly. - For uneven floors, a substructure (e.g., base height adjusters) should be adjusted under the cabinets beforehand to prevent the baseboards from sagging. Tools such as a spirit level, miter box, and cordless drill are very useful for this.
In addition to Paxton’s explanations: The IKEA Metod baseboards are modular and adaptable, which makes the system flexible. For uneven flooring, the following tips can be helpful: - Use the height-adjustable feet of the Metod cabinets to level the baseboard with the floor. - Install the baseboards only once the lower cabinets are perfectly level; otherwise, the alignment won’t fit. - For corners, mitre cuts using a mitre box or precise trimming with a jigsaw are recommended for exact joints. - For larger floor unevenness, it can be helpful to add flexible sealant or small wooden wedges behind the baseboard to avoid gaps. Important: Be patient when aligning and regularly re-measure, even several times before final fixing.

Maubrendon9 Jul 2023 07:33Thanks in advance for the many tips. I have one more question for better understanding: How exactly do I attach the clips to the cabinets? Are they fixed in place, or are they simply clamped between the baseboard and the cabinet? I have read that some people assemble the entire baseboard system beforehand and then fix it to the wall, while others secure each part individually directly to the frame cabinets. Is there a particular advantage to either method?

I have one more question for clarification: How exactly do I attach the clips to the cabinets? The clips are usually attached to the base cabinets with screws. They are not just clipped on but firmly fastened, which ensures the stability of the baseboards. During installation, it is recommended to place the clips at regular intervals parallel to the front edge of the cabinets, typically about every 40-50cm (16-20 inches).

Is there a particular advantage to one method or the other? It is generally easier and more precise to attach the clips individually directly to the cabinets, as this ensures the correct height and alignment before fitting the baseboards. Assembling the baseboards before installation increases the risk of inaccuracies and can make later adjustments more difficult. Therefore, I recommend mounting the clips individually and then snapping each baseboard into place on the installed cabinets.
