Hello everyone, I am currently setting up an IKEA Metod kitchen and have the problem that some of my walls are quite uneven. My question is: How do I install IKEA Metod kitchen cabinets accurately on uneven walls? I definitely want to avoid unsightly gaps afterward or the cabinets not being properly aligned. Are there any special methods or tools that have proven effective, for example when leveling unevenness or during the installation of the baseboards? Tips on proper preparation and measures to take during assembly would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

For unevenness of 2-4 cm (1-1.5 inches), use spacer strips on the wall. Screw them firmly in place, then hang the cabinets on this mounting level. Fully extend the plinth feet to compensate for height differences. Cut the cover panels to close gaps.

First, install the base cabinets completely and flush. Then you can use spacer strips with the wall cabinets to compensate for any unevenness in the walls.

This is an important tip because people often want to hang everything at once. Base cabinets are usually more stable and can provide reliable reference points. This is especially helpful with Metod cabinets, as they can be aligned with each other.

Additionally, you can adjust the gaps between the cabinets and the wall before final fastening by using thin wedges or strips of paper for testing. This way, you can fine-tune the fit before everything is secured tightly.

I would like to add a practical experience to this thread: With my Metod kitchen, I had similar wall irregularities. I installed spacer strips made of construction timber and partly used thin particle boards as a base to mount the cabinets securely. When cutting the panels, I paid attention to using sharp tools and making miter cuts – this makes a big difference in appearance. It is also important that the screws are not too long to avoid damaging the cabinet back panels. And one more tip: move slowly and carefully during assembly. Impatience often leads to dealing with gaps and misaligned fronts.

The unevenness is in the range of 2 to 4 centimeters (1 to 1.5 inches), mainly on the wall where the upper cabinets are to be installed.
For irregularities like this, my final detailed advice would be to always use a spirit level or a laser level to mark the alignment. First, establish a reference line (e.g., 140 cm (55 inches) height for the bottom edge of the upper cabinets). Then attach spacer strips aligned precisely with this line. You may need to cut the strips to size beforehand using a circular saw.

Materials like hardwood strips or plywood panels work well because they can be securely screwed in place. After that, you can position and fix the cabinets exactly on these strips.

Finally – and this is often underestimated – adjust the cabinet fronts and doors precisely. Small gaps are acceptable with Metod systems, but larger sags or angular deviations can be distracting. Using a small leveling tool for the final adjustments is also worthwhile.

If you want, I can provide advice on tools and the exact steps for mounting the fronts.
