Hello everyone,

I wanted to start a focused discussion on the topic of “How to install Ikea Metod kitchen backsplashes without visible screws?” since this is an important issue for me right now.

My kitchen has the standard Metod base frame, and I have the glass backsplashes as well as the regular Ikea backsplashes. The goal is to attach the backsplash in a way that no screws are visible, as I prefer the look without screw heads.

Does anyone have experience with specific installation methods or alternative solutions? For example:
- Routing a groove in the backsplash?
- Using concealed clips that Ikea might not officially recommend?
- Special tapes or adhesives that hold permanently yet can be removed without residue?
- Or perhaps another fastening technique?

I would be very grateful for tips that are also compatible with the original Metod components.

Thank you very much!

A common and reliable solution is to use so-called glass strip profiles or aluminum U-profiles that hold the back panel from behind. These profiles can be attached to the kitchen base structure, and the back panel is clamped into the groove. This way, no screw heads are visible on the front surface.

It is important that the profiles are precisely matched to the thickness of the back panel. For Metod, 8mm (0.3 inch) thick back panels are suitable, and there are matching aluminum profiles available that can be installed invisibly.

As an alternative, mounting adhesive can also be used. However, the surfaces should be perfectly flat and free of grease to ensure the back panel adheres securely over time.

I would simply attach the back panel using double-sided mounting tape. This works well and looks neat, with no visible screws. It is important to choose tape with sufficient strength.

Regarding the installation of Ikea Metod kitchen backsplashes without visible screws, it is advisable to consider the following points:

- Identify the backsplash material: glass, MDF, or plastic.
- Use concealed mounting systems, such as aluminum wall profiles or shadow gap profiles.
- Alternatively, residue-free adhesive tapes with high bonding strength specifically designed for glass can be used, for example, VHB tapes from 3M, which are also vibration-resistant.
- To avoid damage to the Metod system, mechanical attachments should be limited to areas that are not visible (e.g., bottom edge or inside of the backsplash).

Before installation, it is essential to check whether future disassembly may be necessary to avoid surface or material damage. Permanent bonding may significantly limit later removal options.

That sounds interesting – could you explain in more detail how this profile mounting works and how the profiles are secured to the Metod system? Are there specific screws or clamping mechanisms I should use?

Also: How exactly does this method prevent drilling directly into the back panel? The back panel should not be damaged.

The aluminum U-profiles are attached to the back of the base cabinet or the wall, typically using small screws in existing holes on the back panel of the Metod system. The profiles feature a groove into which the back panel is inserted. This secures the panel without any visible screws on the front side of the back panel.

The back panel is simply slid into the groove of the profile and is not drilled through. This keeps the back panel intact and the mounting concealed.
