Hello everyone,
A while ago, I bought a Malm bed frame from IKEA, which I generally like, but I have an issue with its stability. It tends to wobble slightly, especially when lying down or moving—so mainly under dynamic loads. To me, this doesn’t feel like great quality; I would have expected a bed frame made of wood and not exactly lightweight to be more stable.
I’m wondering how I can improve the stability of the Malm bed frame without necessarily using third-party products or making major modifications. What measures are effective to reduce the wobbling? Are there any experiences with reinforcements, inserts, or other tricks? It’s important to me that any solution remains visually inconspicuous and doesn’t require significant alterations that might void the warranty.
Has anyone had similar problems and can share how they solved them? I’m looking forward to constructive tips and suggestions.

I know the feeling when the bed wobbles and you wake up at night thinking it’s about to collapse. 🙂 It really affects your peace of mind.
For me, a combination of small metal brackets and a custom-made center support beam, which I screwed across the frame, helped a lot. It was also important to get the frame perfectly level on the floor— even slight unevenness can cause issues.
I can absolutely confirm that. It really helped me give the large board more load-bearing capacity.
If you decide to tackle this, take it slow and test each step carefully without doing too much at once. It’s better to make gradual adjustments until it feels stable. I wish you the best of luck and hope you find a good solution!

A wooden board under the center support beam can also provide additional reinforcement

If you want stability, furniture from the IKEA shelf with its thin boards is not the best choiceHonestly, I think you’re overlooking something. Sure, IKEA isn’t a craftsman’s workshop, but the MALM bed frame can definitely be improved with a few targeted measures. It’s just a piece of furniture, not a space station, and it doesn’t need to support a weight that nobody can even reach.
A combination of well-placed brackets, sturdy screws, and proper floor preparation is perfectly sufficient for everyday use. If you want to eliminate every minor creak, you might consider spending more on a pricier model, but here we are talking about practical solutions.
It would also be interesting to know whether the bed frame is used with or without a storage box, as the storage box can also affect stability.
