Hello everyone,

I recently bought an Ikea Besta TV unit and removed some protective films during assembly. Unfortunately, adhesive residue or film remnants have remained on the surface, which are difficult to remove. Since the surfaces are often laminated or veneered, I definitely want to avoid damaging or harming the finish.

My question is: What methods or products do you use to gently but effectively remove adhesive residue or protective film remnants from Ikea Besta surfaces? Are there any particular home remedies, tools, or special cleaners that have proven effective?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

From my experience with Besta and similar furniture: avoid aggressive solvents like acetone-based nail polish remover. The surface becomes dull, and the damage often remains visible.

I tried using an orange oil cleaner, which worked well for me. Afterwards, wiping with a damp cloth removes all residues.

It is important to repeat the procedure several times; with patience, it works well.

I would like to add a few facts to the discussion:

- Ikea Besta surfaces are mostly made of melamine resin-coated particleboard. This coating is thermoplastic and prone to scratches.
- Solvents like isopropyl alcohol are generally safe in low concentrations, but be cautious with stronger solvents such as acetone.
- Mechanical removal (scraping, scratching) often causes visible damage, so it should be done very carefully and only with plastic tools.
- Gentle adhesive removers from specialized retailers, labeled for laminate or furniture, are the best choice for stubborn residues.

Summary: Use mild cleaning agents, test on an inconspicuous area, avoid sharp tools, and apply isopropyl alcohol or furniture adhesive removers selectively.

For me, warm water, a little dish soap, and a soft cloth are always sufficient. If necessary, isopropyl alcohol can be used, but slowly and carefully. This method has removed all adhesive residues so far without causing any damage.

Rub adhesive residues with cooking oil or baby oil, let it sit for a short time, and then gently wipe off; this can sometimes work wonders. Afterwards, clean with water and dish soap.
