Good morning everyone, I am currently facing an issue where some doors of my Ikea Metod kitchen cabinet are stuck and very difficult to open. The hinges are original Ikea, but I suspect the doors may have warped or the installation is no longer perfectly aligned. My specific question is: How can I gently but effectively free or release the stuck Ikea Metod cabinet doors without damaging the fittings or the door fronts? Does anyone have tips for a simple approach or tools that have proven useful in such cases? I have already tried carefully pulling and prying the door slightly, but I want to avoid taking any risks. Thanks for your experiences!

From a technical perspective, it is important to note that Metod hinges, depending on the type (concealed at the top/back or clip-on), allow for different methods to remove the door. Generally, it is advisable not to forcefully remove the doors but rather to systematically loosen the screws of the hinges to achieve better alignment and release of the clamping points. Partially loosening the screws creates play that makes freeing the door easier and helps prevent damage.

I understand how frustrating it is when you can’t open a door. It has happened to me as well that I almost damaged the fittings by trying to apply too much force. That’s why my advice is: stay patient and proceed step by step. If you notice that the door doesn’t budge even with some wiggle room, it might be a good idea to check the inside of the cabinet for moisture, which could be causing the wood to swell. This way, you can avoid further problems.

Hey, I know that problem! 🙂 A little tip from me: If you gently move the door, pulling it slightly upwards and forwards with care, you can often bypass the hinge stability briefly and remove the door. Don’t use too much force – it’s better to try gently several times. And yes, I know patience is the most important ingredient! Good luck!

I just want to encourage you! Stuck doors are really frustrating, but most of the time you can free them without causing much damage. Just keep at it and don’t get discouraged – often a bit of loosening and careful handling helps. You can definitely do it!

A quick update from my side: Today, I slightly loosened the screws of the upper hinges and then used a plastic spatula to gently widen the gap after carefully lifting the door upwards. After that, the door came off easily. Thanks for the tips! Next, I will lightly sand the door and readjust it to prevent it from sticking in the long term.

Great, glad to hear it worked out! For sanding, I recommend only working on the areas that stick when opening, rather than sanding along the entire edge. Small adjustments are often enough. Afterwards, clean the door thoroughly and, if needed, lightly lubricate the hinges with a special oil. This can significantly improve the movement.
