Hello everyone,
I have a problem with my Ikea Brimnes drawer chest: some of the drawers squeak loudly and unpleasantly when they are pulled out or pushed back in. It gets quite annoying over time, and I would like to repair it myself or at least significantly improve the situation.
I understand that the issue often comes from the drawer slides or rollers, maybe also due to dryness or dirt. However, I would like to know exactly how to best address this with the Brimnes model, which steps make sense, and which tools or products I should use for maintenance or repair.
Has anyone had experience with squeaky Brimnes drawers and can offer tips on how to fix this permanently?
Thanks in advance!

As an addition: When the latches are unlocked, make sure to pull the drawer out parallel to the runner. Pulling it out at an angle can damage the plastic components.
For lubrication, branded products from specialist suppliers for furniture or plastic glides are suitable, preferably silicone-based. An affordable alternative is dry graphite spray, which does not stick and therefore does not attract dust.
Additional tips:
- Before cleaning, remove loose particles from the runners with a brush.
- After lubricating, open and close the drawer several times to distribute the lubricant evenly.

I had the same issue with my Brimnes! What really helped was first cleaning the drawers thoroughly and then treating the drawer runners with graphite powder instead of spray. Graphite is dry, doesn’t attract dirt, and ensures very smooth and quiet sliding.
If you want to try this: just lightly dust the runners with graphite powder, then slide the drawers back and forth a few times. It works great!

Oh, squeaky drawers – it’s like an annoying little symphony in the house that you never asked for 😅
Jokes aside: All the tips are great, but I can add that with the Brimnes drawer, it’s important to reinstall the drawer correctly. The slide must engage precisely, otherwise it will stick and continue to squeak.
A little tip from me: If it gets stuck, gently push the drawer in while pressing the sides inward, so there’s no unnecessary pressure on the sliding rails.

Its advantage is that it does not liquefy, so it doesn’t attract dust, which can improve the long-term durability of the mechanism.

If the squeaking doesn’t stop despite lubrication, check if the wheels are still rolling smoothly and have no damage. This is an important point: wear on the wheels is often why lubrication alone isn’t enough. In Brimnes furniture, the wheels are usually attached with small screws and can be replaced if spare parts are available.
If you want to order replacements, it’s best to note the exact model number. In rare cases, lightly sanding the wheels with fine sandpaper can help if they have become uneven – but be careful, as this can reduce their durability.
How old is your piece of furniture, Sau-cyrill?
