Hello everyone,

I am currently facing a somewhat annoying issue with my IKEA Besta sideboard: the front is slightly warped, which is especially noticeable on the doors or drawers. I suspect this may have been caused by moisture exposure or uneven loading. My question is quite specific: what is the best way to repair a warped front on an IKEA Besta without having to replace the entire front or piece of furniture?

Are there any practical tips that preserve the material while restoring both function and appearance? Has anyone experienced similar warping issues with Besta fronts, and if so, which tools, sanding techniques, adhesives, or methods have proven effective?

I would really appreciate helpful and as detailed as possible instructions, as I would like to repair the furniture myself rather than ordering new parts right away. Thanks in advance!

Hi,

I would first unscrew the front panel and check if it can be reshaped gently using mild heat (e.g., a hairdryer on medium setting) combined with careful manual bending. Important: do not apply too much heat, as this could damage the surface. Afterward, weigh down or secure the panel while it dries.

If that doesn’t work, try attaching small wooden wedges or battens to the back to maintain the shape.

I’m unfortunately very familiar with the problem of warped fronts; it’s really frustrating, especially when you still like the piece of furniture.

I think it’s great that you’re taking matters into your own hands because often you don’t need to replace everything right away. With my BESTA fronts, I’ve had good results by carefully wiping the surface with a damp cloth and then gently working on the back side with a damp sponge. After that, I placed the front flat on an even surface with some extra weight on top and let it dry overnight. It requires patience, but this often brings a visible improvement.

The most important thing is not to apply too much pressure to avoid any cracks or further damage. I know how annoying this issue can be — I’m keeping my fingers crossed that your front looks and functions better afterward!

Unscrew it, slightly dampen the panel, and gently press it back into shape. Then secure it and let it dry for several hours. If the warping is not too severe, this usually works well.
