ᐅ How can I fix a problem with the drawers of the IKEA Brimnes wardrobe?

Hello everyone,

I have an IKEA Brimnes wardrobe with several drawers and am currently facing an issue: some of the drawers are difficult to open and close, and sometimes they get stuck or misalign when moving. I have already checked whether the slides are dirty or obstructed, but that does not seem to be the case. The drawers fit quite tightly in the guide rails, which in my opinion could indicate incorrect assembly or possibly improper adjustment of the slides or the drawer fronts.

Does anyone have experience with this particular piece of furniture and can offer advice on how exactly to fix the problem? For example, is there a method to adjust the slides or to loosen/tighten certain screws to prevent these issues?

Thanks in advance for any tips or shared experiences!

Also check the drawer rollers for any damage or breakage.

Thanks for the tip, I will inspect the rollers this evening.

Regarding re-bending: Have you had good experiences with this? I’m concerned that improper handling could permanently damage the metal. Or is there a standard limit up to which it can be bent?

From my own experience, slight rebending of the rails is possible, but it must be done very carefully!

It’s best to use pliers with a rubber coating to avoid leaving marks. The goal is to create just a little more clearance so the drawer doesn’t stick.

If you’re unsure, first check if the plastic rollers can be replaced. This often improves things more effectively and with less risk.

A quick update from me:

- Removed drawer fronts and completely realigned them.
- Loosened, aligned, and tightened the slides.
- Checked the rollers; two were slightly damaged—I have replacements ready.

The problem seems significantly improved; the drawers now slide much more smoothly without sticking. It’s not perfect yet, but I believe the main issue was the initial installation of the cabinet.

Thanks to everyone for the helpful tips!

Good news. Proper alignment of the tracks is usually the most common cause of issues with IKEA cabinets of this type.

With intact rollers and properly adjusted tracks, you are generally on the safe side.
