Hello everyone, I have a problem with a misaligned door in my Ikea Metod kitchen. Specifically, the door no longer hangs straight; it shifts slightly downward and to the right when I close it. Most likely, the hinges are no longer properly adjusted, or possibly the screws have come loose.

I am especially interested in how to reliably realign the door myself so that it doesn’t shift again after a short time. Is there a proven method for readjusting the Metod hinges or any installation tips that are useful to know? Any advice on how to check for or fix potential damage to the screws or hinges would also be appreciated.

If anyone has specific tips on handling Ikea Metod doors, I would be very grateful to hear about your experience!

Hello Jeron1! Great that you want to take matters into your own hands! 😊 The Metod hinges are usually easy to adjust. It’s important to check all three adjustment screws: one for height, one for lateral position, and one for tightening the door against the cabinet frame.

First, loosen the screws, align the door, then tighten them again. If the screws are too loose, a bit of wood glue or wood shavings under the screw can help if the hole is worn out. Sometimes the hinges are too stiff, and a drop of oil can help!

Go for it – you can do this! And feel free to reach out if you have any more questions!

The cause of a misaligned Metod door is in most cases an incorrect adjustment of the three hinge adjustment screws. These are located at different points: on the side of the hinge, vertically at the hook connection, and at the pressure screw, which presses the door against the cabinet frame.

Procedure:
- Open the door and locate the screws.
- To move the door sideways, turn the side screw accordingly.
- For height adjustment, adjust the screw at the hinge hook.
- The return or pressure force is regulated with the third screw.

If the screws do not hold because the holes have become worn, wooden wedges or special dowels can be used for stabilization. After adjusting, make sure to open and close the door several times so the adjustment can settle.

Simply check the hinges, slightly loosen the screws, align the door, and tighten the screws again. If the holes are worn out, use wood glue and wood shavings. Pay close attention to the three adjustment screws.

Hello Jeron1, your problem with the misaligned Metod kitchen door can be easily fixed if you proceed systematically.

I recommend first opening the door fully and checking all the hinge screws. Often, adjusting the hinges is necessary: Metod hinges have three screws for alignment – one for height, one for lateral adjustment, and one for the door's pressure against the frame.

It’s best to have a small toolkit with a Phillips and flathead screwdriver, plus an Allen wrench in case your hinges have hex screws.

Carefully turn the screw for vertical adjustment to level the height. Then adjust the lateral position with the second screw. If screws don’t turn properly because they are loose in the wood, it often helps to insert a toothpick with wood glue into the hole to stabilize it.

One last tip: make sure the hinges and the door panel itself are not damaged. Sometimes the door frame is warped or the front is slightly deformed due to moisture.

Yes, that’s really important! Sometimes people only check the screws, but the door or the hinge can already have slight damage that makes alignment difficult. If the hinges are old, it’s worth considering a replacement; they aren’t expensive and can be swapped out quickly! All the best, you can do it!
