Hello everyone, I have an IKEA Metod kitchen drawer where the front panel and handle are obviously a bit loose. The drawer itself still operates smoothly, but the front wobbles and no longer sits firmly. I am especially interested in how to reliably fix this loose connection without having to completely remove or replace the drawer. Are there specific screws, simple tricks, or suitable accessories that can securely reattach the handle and front panel? Could you provide tips on which tools or replacement parts are needed for this kind of repair? I want to avoid any long-term impact on the drawer’s stability as much as possible. Thanks in advance!

The Metod drawer fronts are usually held in place with plastic hooks that are fastened inside with screws. First, check if the screws are tight. If not, carefully tighten them. If the front panel is loose, sometimes a small drop of wood glue at the contact points can help, but use it very sparingly. Handle screws need to be tightened from the inside and are often secured with an Allen key or Phillips screwdriver.

I am happy to provide a step-by-step guide to fix a loose IKEA Metod drawer:

- First, fully extend the drawer and remove it from the cabinet sides if possible.
- Check all screws on the inside of the drawer front panel: usually, there are two or more screws securing the front to the side panels. Tighten them firmly with a suitable screwdriver or Allen key.
- Also inspect the handle attachment: often the screws there are slightly recessed or loose. A secure fit is essential.
- If the screw holes are slightly worn out (you can tell if the screws keep loosening), you can apply some wood glue into the holes and insert small wooden pieces or toothpicks as filler until everything fits tightly. After drying, tighten the screws again.
- It’s important that the front panel sits flush and straight against the sides; check this while tightening the screws.
- If the front panel only wobbles slightly, a thin strip of felt tape or small sealing tape can help balance tensions and stabilize the front.
In summary: check and tighten screws, fill worn holes with small wooden pieces if necessary, and use auxiliary materials when needed. Tools: Phillips screwdriver, Allen key, wood glue, optional felt tape.

That’s a helpful tip, but you should also carefully consider whether wood glue combined with particle board material of the drawer might cause swelling over time. There are special repair putties or nylon inserts that address this issue more effectively and improve stability in the long run.

Furthermore, I would check if the looseness might also be due to excessive load or improper installation. Have you fully removed the drawer and inspected the mounting hardware for any damage? Sometimes the problem lies deeper, and all the screw and glue repairs are only temporary fixes.
