ᐅ How can I fix a misaligned Ikea Metod cabinet door?

Hello everyone,

I have a problem with a door from the Ikea Metod kitchen cabinet system. The door has been hanging crooked for some time now, which not only looks bad but also makes closing it difficult. It is a 40 cm (16 inches) wide door attached with Ikea standard hinges that have two mounting points.

I suspect that the misalignment is caused by an improperly adjusted or loosely hung door, but I’m not sure exactly how to best proceed to realign the door correctly. Is there a reliable step-by-step guide to fix this issue? I have read online that you can adjust the screws on the hinges, but so far this has only been somewhat clear to me, as I don’t fully understand some of the technical terms.

I would be very grateful for a detailed explanation that also covers possible causes for the door hanging crooked and how to prevent it from happening again in the long term. Maybe someone here has experience repairing Metod doors.

Thanks in advance!

If misalignment or a permanent tilt of the door remains despite adjustment,

This is exactly the point I want to address. It is often assumed that the cause lies only in the adjustment, but I always wonder how often the problem has already occurred during the cabinet carcass installation.

Has Hunter7 checked whether the carcass is level and square? Because if the cabinet itself is crooked or warped, even the best possible door adjustment won’t fix that.

Also, when readjusting, it should be possible to see if the hinge itself shifts within its mounting. If so, new mounting plates would help.

Has Hunter7 provided any information about the room conditions or the cabinet’s placement?

Did Hunter7 check if the cabinet carcass is standing straight and square?

Thank you for this important point! So far, I have only looked at the door and have not checked whether the cabinet itself is completely straight. The carcass is placed in a corner and might be slightly warped due to the wall.

I will definitely check the cabinet with a spirit level and then make any necessary adjustments to its positioning.

If the carcass is warped, I would be interested to know: how much can a slight distortion affect the door alignment? Or, put differently, at what point does a carcass warp become more critical than just an incorrect door hinge adjustment? This would help me determine whether I need to realign the entire cabinet or only work on the door.
