Hello everyone, I am currently planning to install my Ikea Metod kitchen cabinets at home. The problem is that our walls are not completely straight, which naturally makes the installation more challenging. Therefore, my question is: How do you install Ikea Metod kitchen cabinets on uneven walls so that the fronts and countertops fit neatly and remain stable? Are there any special techniques, materials, or tips you would recommend to compensate for irregularities without making the cabinets look “crooked”? I have already considered various filler and leveling options, but maybe there are better solutions or proven methods. I would really appreciate your experiences and advice!

Hello Blada, I completely understand how frustrating this can be! Uneven walls turn an otherwise simple IKEA assembly plan into a bit of an adventure.

What worked well for me was first carefully checking with a spirit level and a long straightedge to identify exactly where the irregularities were. Then I used shims and spacer blocks to align the cabinets on the same plane.

You can actually look for adjustable feet on the cabinets, which allow a bit of play. Also, I recommend only screwing the cabinets together once they are properly leveled—this is the only way to build a stable frame. Then you can use molding or filler pieces to close any gaps against the wall. This also creates a neat visual finish.

I was sometimes worried about doing something wrong, but with patience it really worked out well. Do you already have a plan for how uneven the walls are? Maybe using a specific assembly order can help manage the problems better.

Hello Blada and everyone else, I find this topic extremely important. Especially with IKEA Metod kitchen cabinets, which are relatively compact units, an uneven wall can quickly affect the final result in an undesirable way.

A general recommendation from me:
- Before installation, carefully measure where the wall is uneven, not just visually, but using a laser level or spirit level.
- Make full use of the adjustable feet of the Metod cabinets to compensate for uneven floors or walls.
- If the walls are very crooked, narrow filler strips (e.g., made of wood or MDF) can be installed between the wall and the cabinet. These can be painted or finished to match later.
- For the countertop, it is advisable to make a precise cut to fit, and possibly use flexible sealant or silicone along the wall to ensure a clean finish.

This is a very important point – never forget the feet, as the stability of the cabinets largely depends on them.

Especially for the front panels, it is also important to cover small gaps deliberately with strips or silicone after assembly – this creates a neat appearance.

I hope this helps you!

Great topic, Blada! I had a very similar issue with my Metod kitchen and I definitely want to encourage you: you can do it!

I worked directly with a homemade template that I held against the wall to transfer the irregularities. After that, I could make minor adjustments to the panels and filler strips.

The trick is:
- always work from corner to corner,
- install strips or fillers in between,
- and securely fasten the cabinets to the wall using brackets.

One more tip: If the wall is very uneven, always include a small gap for air or expansion during installation – Metod is quite flexible in this regard.

I also used very simple metal brackets from the hardware store to create some adjustment options in case small fine-tuning was needed later.

Good luck, and please share how it goes!

If the wall is uneven, in brief:

- Use adjustable feet
- Cut filler pieces from wood or MDF
- Align and screw the cabinets precisely
- Place the countertop only at the end and adjust it as needed

This way, you achieve a stable and clean solution for Ikea Metod kitchens.
