Hello everyone, I’m looking for advice on the optimal placement of Malm beds in bedrooms.
Specifically, I’m interested in which factors to consider when positioning the bed to make the most efficient use of the space while ensuring frequent use and maximum comfort.
Are there any recommendations regarding window placement, distance from walls, effects of lighting conditions, or even ergonomic aspects when choosing the spot? I have a rather small bedroom (about 12sqm (130 sq ft)) and want to avoid the bed overwhelming the room or making storage under the Malm bed inconvenient.
How do you find the perfect spot for Malm beds without neglecting other furniture and walkways? What mistakes have you made in positioning, and what did you learn from them? Thanks in advance for your experiences and tips!

Here is a brief tutorial to help with choosing the location for Malm beds:
1. Room preparation: Measure your bedroom accurately. Draw the room layout including dimensions of all doors, windows, and radiators.
2. Bed dimensions: Malm beds with drawers are approximately 210 cm long and 160 cm wide (for a double bed). Allow about 70 cm clearance in front of the drawers.
3. Positioning: Place the bed against the wall with the smallest temperature fluctuations, ideally one with internal heating, to avoid moisture buildup.
4. Movement space: Ensure at least 60 cm of clearance on the open side to comfortably clean and operate the drawers.
A common mistake is placing the bed too close to doors, forcing you to always walk around the foot end to enter the room.
In summary, a floor plan helps to plan the position precisely.

Place the bed against the wall with the smallest temperature fluctuation\This aspect deserves special attention.
I also recommend considering the heating layout: a bed placed against an exterior wall may experience heat loss, which can reduce sleeping comfort over time. Alternatively, a well-insulated interior wall not only provides a pleasant temperature but also protects against moisture and possible mold growth.
Additionally, natural light combined with the room’s orientation can play an important role. While morning sunlight directly hitting the bed can be refreshing, it may also be disturbing if blackout options are not available.

Direct contact with cold exterior walls can cause condensation.Thank you for the detailed advice.
I will place the bed against the interior wall, which has good insulation. I want to avoid the window side, as it receives a lot of morning light.

At least 10cm (5 inches) clearance on all sides if the bed has drawers, so they can be opened easily. This will be arranged in my room.

Clear access to the drawers and an optimal distance from windows and doors combine maximum comfort with practical use.I have realized that I shouldn’t push the bed too far into the corner, even if that means less space for movement.
Thanks to everyone who helped me with their tips and details. Deciding on the interior wall is now much easier. If I have any more questions, I will be happy to ask again.
