Hello everyone,

I recently assembled several IKEA Brimnes pieces, including dressers and bed frames. I noticed that some parts feel slightly wobbly, even though I tightened the screws according to the instructions. I’m wondering how I can ensure these pieces stand firmly and stable, without wobbling or shifting.

Specifically, I’m interested in:
- What are the common causes of wobbling in Brimnes furniture?
- Are there any special assembly tips, such as the order of steps or retightening screws?
- Does using additional stabilization like washers, edge protectors, or similar help?
- Does the floor beneath the furniture need to be perfectly level, or is there some tolerance?
- How durable is the stability generally expected to be with Brimnes construction?

I would appreciate it if anyone could share their experience or specific advice so I can use my furniture safely and securely over time. Thanks in advance!

The most common cause of wobbling with BRIMNES is often a combination of uneven flooring and slightly loose connection screws.

- First, check that all screws, especially at the joints between the side panels and base plates, are tightened properly. IKEA furniture sometimes requires retightening after a few days of use.
- If the floor is not completely level, it is recommended to use small furniture glides or self-adhesive felt pads under the legs to stabilize the contact points.
- For dressers, it is also possible to add small brackets for extra stability. This is not part of the BRIMNES design but can be done.
- Keep in mind that assembling the furniture according to the instructions in the recommended order is important to distribute pressure evenly.

Overall, the BRIMNES construction is focused on simplicity and modularity, so you should not expect the same rigidity as solid wood furniture. However, using the methods mentioned, a high level of stability can be achieved.

Hello Franklinto,

I would like to add that some details are often overlooked with furniture from the BRIMNES range, which can contribute to its stability:

- During assembly, it is important to ensure all drill holes are properly aligned; otherwise, the pressure will be unevenly distributed.
- Repeatedly and carefully retightening all screws after the full assembly helps to secure the furniture piece.
- If there is any wobbling, you can use furniture shims or rubber pads between the furniture leg and the floor to compensate for unevenness.
- Also, the screw connections in BRIMNES furniture should preferably be tightened using the included Torx or Allen keys, which ensures the necessary torque.

From my experience, after about a week of use and retightening the screws once, the furniture usually becomes stable.

If the problem persists, check the packaging for any damaged or warped parts, as these can also cause instability.

Retightening is definitely necessary, but the question is whether the wobbling might also be due to an inherent design weakness. Especially with BRIMNES, it is noticeable that some joints are made only from particleboard, which can give way more quickly under load.

Another issue I see is that IKEA often tries to use minimal material in these pieces. The consequence is a certain loss of rigidity.

I think this is important: fundamentally, the quality of the individual parts should be inspected as well. Even the best assembly is ineffective if the panels are warped.

A general recommendation to address the problem at its root would be:
- Always carefully level furniture on uneven floors
- Check screws multiple times after assembly
- Possibly add extra brackets to further stabilize the joints

This is the only way to at least control the typical wobbliness often found in affordable furniture.

On a level surface and with tightened screws, BRIMNES sits steadily.

Don’t forget to retighten the screws after a few days.

Furniture glides for uneven floors usually help immediately.
