Hello everyone,

I am currently focusing on how to achieve a neat and visually appealing look with the IKEA Platsa system. Specifically, I am concerned with the surface finish, the gaps between the components, and the transition to the floor and walls. I have some ideas but am unsure how to deal with the often visible uneven spacing or the partially differing surface appearances.

Perhaps someone has experience or tips on how to achieve a slim, flush appearance with PLATSA shelves or cabinets? What is the best way to handle the connecting edges? Are there special tools, processing aids, or tricks to create clean transitions?

Looking forward to your opinions!

In addition to the previous tips, I recommend the following approach:

- Before installation: Check walls and floors for height differences and non-plumb angles.
- If the shelves are used freestanding, connection brackets or anchors should be used to accurately secure the modules and avoid uneven joints.
- An additional tip is to use thin black sealing or cover strips for aesthetics. These can visually smooth transitions and give PLATSA a more modern look.

Since PLATSA is known for modularity, investing time in precise preparation pays off significantly.

How easy is it to remove silicone later if you want to make changes?

It works quite well if you carefully lift the silicone with a special tool or a utility knife and then dissolve residues using a silicone remover. So no worries, it’s not permanent, and you can adjust or modify it later.

Also: For the cover strips, you might want to try magnetic strips if you want something that can be removed quickly.

Have fun building! You’ve got this! 😃
