Hello everyone, I have a specific issue with my IKEA Platsa drawers that I recently assembled. The drawers basically work, but they make unpleasant noises when opening and closing – ranging from squeaking to creaking sounds. I’m interested in understanding what might be causing these noises and how to best eliminate them. Are there particular lubricants recommended for this, or could adjustments to the drawer mechanisms be necessary? Perhaps the runners are not optimally installed or require fine-tuning? I would appreciate detailed advice on how to make the PLATSA drawers run as quietly and smoothly as possible. Thank you in advance!

Good plan, feel free to get back in touch after the treatment. By the way, it can help to fully pull out and push in the drawer several times after applying the lubricant to distribute it evenly. This can also release minor sticking. Besides silicone spray, the plastic parts tolerate PTFE spray well if you have some on hand.

If the squeaking persists despite maintenance, also check the surrounding joints. Sometimes noises from other areas are transmitted through the frame.

Update from my side: The silicone spray has noticeably reduced the squeaking. The rails were well adjusted, but I found a small groove in one of the plastic sliders that probably caused a bit more friction. I will replace this slider when I get the chance. Thanks for the valuable help so far!

Great to hear it improved! Sometimes a small part makes all the difference. Good luck with the replacement; it will surely go smoothly!

That sounds like good progress. Replacement sliders for the Platsa system are often more affordable than expected, and installation is straightforward. It is important to replace damaged parts promptly to prevent further damage.

For completeness: If you notice persistent noises later on, it can be helpful to dampen the drawers by placing a thin Teflon tape or foam rubber between the slide and the wooden cabinet. Some users rely on this small measure for an ultra-quiet operation.
