I recently installed kitchen cabinets from Ikea, specifically the Metod system with the matching drawers. Unfortunately, I noticed that the drawers make quite loud noises when opening and closing, which is especially disturbing in an otherwise fairly quiet kitchen. The sounds seem to indicate that the drawer slides or runners might be scraping or catching. I have already checked for any foreign objects inside but found nothing.
I am interested in how to best eliminate these loud noises from Ikea Metod drawers. Are there specific lubricants or adjustment techniques that can reduce or eliminate the noise? Or could it be related to an assembly issue that I may have overlooked? I would appreciate a practical and detailed guide that is easy to understand even for people with limited DIY experience.
Thank you in advance!

Hello Philipplis,
first of all, I think it’s great that you described your problem in such detail – it makes it much easier to provide targeted help. Loud noises from Ikea Metod drawers are unfortunately a common issue, but usually, the problem can be solved with a few simple steps.
As a basic check for noisy or squeaky drawers, you should first verify whether the drawer slides are properly aligned and installed. Sometimes a screw isn’t fully tightened or the slide is slightly misaligned.
Then I recommend thoroughly cleaning the drawer slides. Dust and small particles can accumulate and cause friction noises. It’s best to use a dry cloth or a soft brush for this.
A common solution to improve sliding and reduce noise is to use silicone spray or a special lubricant for furniture fittings. Please avoid oily greases, as they tend to attract dust quickly and can make the problem worse.
If the drawers are still noisy despite proper installation and lubrication, you can check the rollers on the sides – are they worn out or not properly positioned in the track? Sometimes small adjustments to the side guides help to reduce resistance.
If you feel that the slide is too tight, carefully loosen it a little so that the drawer has some play without becoming wobbly.
I hope this helps! If you are unsure about any of the steps or need more details, feel free to ask.

Hello Philipplis,
I would like to agree with Nadine’s explanations and add a few practical tips that helped me.
With Ikea Metod drawers, it’s quite common for the plastic parts of the slides to rub slightly against each other when sliding, causing noise. Besides the assembly and lubrication, it often helps to remove the drawers completely and inspect the rails individually. Make sure all moving parts run smoothly and freely.
Another very effective method is to apply a small piece of felt or thin felt tape as cushioning along the sliding paths of the rails. This significantly reduces noise when the drawer hits the end stop. This is especially useful if the noise mostly occurs when closing.
If you use regular silicone spray, please use it sparingly and wipe off any excess immediately to prevent it from sticking inside the drawers.
Finally, a note: if your drawers have soft-close mechanisms, check those carefully as well, since they can also cause noise. Sometimes malfunctions here are easily overlooked.
I hope these additions help you. If you want, I can also explain how to adjust the drawers for optimal movement.
