Hello everyone, I am currently planning the assembly of my new Ikea Pax wardrobe and have some questions regarding the fixing of the shelves. Specifically, I am interested in how to secure the shelves as efficiently and securely as possible – meaning they should be stable, remain easily adjustable, and cause no damage to the side panels. From your experience, are there any techniques or tools that have proven particularly effective? Tips on the included fixing parts or alternative solutions would also be very helpful. Thanks in advance!
Hey, great that you’re approaching this topic so thoroughly! I equipped my Pax with the shelves by playing it safe and using all the metal supports at every corner and in the middle.
My tip: The shelves feel much more stable this way, and I never get the feeling that anything will give way. Just use the included toolkit, and it works really well! Don’t get discouraged; assembling it can be fun!

Hello tuonle, I can only agree with Dilen. Since you have heavy loads, it makes sense to provide additional support for the shelves. A few extra helpful tips:
- When inserting the metal supports, check that the holes are not damaged or frayed, otherwise the supports won’t hold firmly.
- Use a small rubber mallet for assembly if the supports are difficult to insert, but be careful not to damage the side panels.
- For heavy weight, I always recommend supporting the shelves in the middle as well, either with additional supports or a central brace if possible.
It is always better to invest a bit more effort in securing the shelves than to face problems later due to the load.

I recommend lightly greasing the metal supports before installing the shelves. This makes it easier to insert them and protects the holes.
Additionally, if it does not affect the appearance, you can stick self-adhesive metal plates under the shelves to increase their load capacity.

I completely understand the concern about stability when it comes to a piece of furniture like PAX, especially when it's loaded with books and files. What helped me back then was using the original instructions with a bit of skepticism and then adding my own methods.
It's worth taking some extra time and having a few additional tools ready. Also, remember not to put too much pressure on yourself. If you take it step by step, it works out really well, and the cabinet will be sturdy and look good.
Maybe it would help to share your experience here in the thread once you’ve finished assembling it.
