Hello everyone, I am planning to customize my IKEA BESTÅ system in a room with a sloped ceiling. I want to modify the cabinets so they fit perfectly under the angled ceiling without wasting space or compromising stability. My main question is: What is the best way to saw or shorten the BESTÅ components without damaging the front panels or the interior? Are there established methods for cutting the cabinets to match the height of the slope, and how can I ensure that all parts still fit together neatly afterwards? Additionally, I’m interested in any tips on how to aesthetically and functionally conceal any gaps between the cabinet and the slope. I would appreciate any technical or practical advice!
Your consideration is very understandable. It is important to take precise measurements before cutting and to carefully plan how the components will be adjusted. I recommend starting by modifying only the outer parts (side panels, top) to avoid weakening the internal structure. For the front, you can use a router to cleanly shape the edges. Additionally, edge guards or silicone can help to visually close gaps between the cabinet and the sloping ceiling and to prevent dust accumulation. If possible, plan for extra support in case the stability is affected by the modification.

The best method is to assemble the carcasses first and then measure the slope precisely.Thank you for the tip, that’s an important point – it helps avoid measurement errors. I’m also curious if you make any special modifications to the back panel when using BESTÅ under sloped ceilings? And how does stability hold up when the side panels are angled?

I have personally adjusted a BESTÅ unit under a sloped ceiling and experienced that it can be frustrating at first if you make mistakes with the measurements. I found it important to work on the fronts only as the last step.
Regarding stability: my advice is to ensure the weight is evenly distributed and possibly add an extra support leg to prevent the cabinet from wobbling.
For hiding gaps, I like to use self-adhesive strips or small shelves that you can fit precisely along the slope. This looks good and provides additional storage space.
Maybe this helps you and encourages you to try it yourself – mistakes are normal, but the customized solution is what makes the furniture so special.
