Hello everyone, I am planning to convert my IKEA Besta system into a TV stand and am looking for tips and experiences on the best approach. My idea is to use the open compartments for devices, possibly add a back panel, and incorporate cable management. I am also interested in details like how to mount the TV on or within the Besta, and how to create surfaces that are both stable and visually appealing. Are there any special adjustments regarding measurements or modular options that I should consider? Thanks for your support!

Reinforcing the back wall is possible, but it requires precise planning and additional effort. That makes sense to me. Are there any recommendations on the best way to reinforce the back wall if you choose to go that route? Types of wood, materials, or fastening methods?
Plywood panels with a minimum thickness of 18 mm (0.7 inches) are ideal for reinforcement, as they are less prone to movement than MDF. Screws should be anchored in wall plugs/rawl plugs and spaced out evenly to distribute the load uniformly. Alternatively, metal brackets inside the side panels can provide additional support.
Many people use LED strips with 3M adhesive tape. It is important to ensure that the surface for adhesion is clean and free of grease. Dimmable systems often come as sets with a remote control. Pay attention to the power supply – a power adapter located outside the furniture is better for heat management.

It’s important for me that the lighting doesn’t accidentally get too hot and damage the furniture. More extra work in the planning phase, but probably necessary.
