Hello everyone, I am currently planning our new kitchen and have chosen the IKEA Metod system. However, I have read that it is sometimes possible to combine Metod with elements from other IKEA kitchen series. My specific question is: What experiences have you had using Metod cabinets or fronts together with components from other IKEA kitchen lines such as Faktum or Ädel, and what should I pay special attention to? I am particularly interested in tips regarding dimension compatibility, installation options, and visual aspects. Thanks in advance for your advice!
Combining Metod with other IKEA kitchen series is generally challenging because Metod uses a completely new cabinet construction compared to Faktum. The dimensions of the cabinet boxes and front fittings differ significantly in some cases. It is important that the cabinets are mechanically compatible to ensure a stable connection. While it is possible to mix and match fronts visually, shelves, hinges, and accessories are usually not interchangeable. For a consistently uniform appearance and functionality, it is recommended to combine components within the Metod system. If a combination is still desired, it is essential to carefully compare the technical specifications of the individual series and, if necessary, disguise the transitions with accents.
I supplemented our old Faktum kitchen with a few Metod cabinets! It worked quite well but was a bit tricky. Important: You need adapters or must adjust the dimensions precisely, otherwise the cabinets won’t align flush next to each other. Visually, I used black panels – this hides different heights. So, yes, it’s possible, but not without some craftsmanship 🙂

It worked quite well but was a bit fiddly.I find this statement concerning if no precise measurements or technical adjustments are provided. Faktum and Metod differ fundamentally in cabinet carcass height and door mounting systems. Without proper planning, there is a risk of a non-square final installation, leading to issues such as gaps or poor hinge performance. In my opinion, it is better to keep them separate or at least plan for targeted professional support.
