Hello everyone,

Some time ago, I bought Ikea Metod kitchen fronts with a matte finish. Unfortunately, when cleaning them, I often notice that despite careful wiping, stains and unwanted streaks remain, which somehow damages or at least makes the matte surface look unattractive.

I usually use a microfiber cloth with some all-purpose cleaner, but somehow the result is never really satisfactory.

My question to you is: How do I properly clean matte Ikea Metod fronts so that no stains or streaks remain and the matte finish is preserved? Are there any special cleaning products or methods that have proven effective?

I look forward to your tips and experiences!

And how did you prepare the cloths and sponges?

This is very important because not every microfiber cloth is suitable. Very soft, lint-free cloths work better.

I also recommend avoiding any abrasive products – these can damage the matte surface over time.

In my experience, it is best to use distilled water instead of hard water on matte surfaces. This helps prevent lime scale marks and unwanted water spots.

It is also important to thoroughly dry the fronts afterward to maintain the matte appearance. A soft cotton cloth works perfectly for this!

I simply use lukewarm water with a few drops of mild dish soap and a soft sponge. After that, I dry it off with a lint-free cloth.

So far, I haven’t had any streaks or spots.

If you notice streaks, polishing again with a high-quality, dry microfiber cloth often helps.

I can confirm that from experience.

Besides choosing the right cleaning products, immediate re-polishing is an often underestimated step. It ensures even surface reflection and minimizes possible residue.

Also: As with all matte surfaces, it’s important to avoid direct sunlight during or shortly after cleaning, as this causes uneven drying and promotes streaks.

How about you, Jugu37, what about the lighting and kitchen windows during cleaning?
