I have a question about gentle yet effective cleaning methods for matte Ikea Metod cabinet fronts. My fronts have a matte finish, which is often more delicate than glossy surfaces. I want to avoid damage or dulling caused by harsh cleaning products. Therefore, I’m specifically looking for cleaning techniques that effectively remove dust, grease, and light dirt without affecting the matte appearance. Are there any special tips or proven cleaning solution recipes? Perhaps advice on gentle cleaning tools or things to avoid? I look forward to your experiences and practical recommendations!

A simple mixture of water, a little vinegar, and dish soap helped me, but only used very sparingly and always wiped off thoroughly afterward. That sounds great, but be careful: vinegar is not always suitable for these surfaces, as the acidity can sometimes dull them. It’s better to test gently or use only a tiny amount of vinegar. If it works, perfect; otherwise, just stick to the dish soap alone. Sometimes less really is more – and you don’t want a dull finish with a patina 😉.
I completely understand how careful you need to be with matte surfaces. In my experience, even cleaning with too much moisture can cause the material to swell. That’s why I only wipe the surfaces with a slightly damp cloth and dry them immediately afterward. I also use exclusively soft microfiber cloths that have been washed very gently – this prevents small scratches caused by dirt residues in the cloth. Additionally, I avoid household cleaners like lemon-based cleaner or strong vinegar entirely, as I don’t want to risk a strong reaction on my surfaces.
