Hello everyone, I have some Malm wooden furniture that I would like to clean. It is important to me that the surfaces are not damaged, especially that the existing finish is preserved without scratches or dull spots. My question is: Which cleaning agents and methods are suitable for gently and effectively cleaning Malm wood without damaging the finish? Are there any special tips for removing stains from painted or varnished wooden surfaces? It would be great if experiences with common household products as well as professional cleaning options could be shared, so I can choose a safe method.

It is best to use a slightly damp microfiber cloth without harsh cleaning agents. Wipe gently and dry immediately to prevent water from soaking into the wood.

Avoid cleaners containing alcohol or acids. A mild household cleaner diluted with water is gentle enough. Gently blotting instead of rubbing will help remove stains more effectively.

I can easily understand how annoying it is to worry about scratches and paint damage. I had a similar experience with my Malm furniture. The important thing is to avoid using too much moisture or harsh cleaning products. For stubborn stains, I found success with some dish soap mixed in water – it gave me the feeling that the furniture was both protected and cleaned at the same time. If you're unsure, you can test it first on an inconspicuous spot. That gave me a lot of peace of mind.

That's brilliant, how gently you can clean Malm wood! 🙂 I usually use a damp cloth with a bit of mild dish soap and it works really well. Afterwards, wipe it down with a dry cloth to prevent any water spots – it works perfectly! Don’t be afraid of gentle cleaning; your furniture will thank you! You can do it too! 🙂

Thanks, I’ll keep that in mind. I’ve never tried a microfiber cloth before; do you have any advice on whether I should use a specific type for smooth and lacquered surfaces?

Interesting, is there a difference between using regular dish soap and special gentle dish soap?
