Hello everyone, I am looking for a reliable method to clean Malm furniture – especially the white painted versions – without leaving stubborn residues or streaks on the surface. So far, I have tried various cleaning products, but I have either encountered sticky film residues or streaking. Does anyone know of a cleaning method or specific products that work particularly well to gently yet thoroughly clean Malm furniture? It is especially important to me that no unpleasant residues remain, as I use the furniture frequently and want it to look clean again quickly. Thanks in advance!

Is there a specific technique for moving the cloth to avoid streaks or residue? Yes, the movement is important: Ideally, clean using straight, non-circular motions in one direction. This helps to prevent streaking more effectively. After wiping with a damp cloth, immediately dry the surface in lengthwise or crosswise strokes until it is completely matte and dry. There is no need to apply pressure; use gentle and even movements instead.
It is also interesting that some cleaners can leave not only residues but also micro-scratches over time, which alter the way light is reflected and thus make streaks visible. It might be worth considering whether there are especially gentle cloths that cause less micro-abrasion.
Perhaps the surface can be refreshed a bit using an even gentler cleaning agent or a suitable maintenance oil when initial haze becomes visible.

Regarding micro-scratches, I recommend using special furniture care products with fine polishing agents that fill in small scratches. For general cleaning, follow these guidelines:
- Do not use alcohol or solvents
- Remove residues with clear water after cleaning
- Do not leave furniture damp for extended periods
These measures help preserve the lacquer surface and prevent residue buildup.

In a typical household, it is sufficient to thoroughly clean Malm furniture every 1 to 2 weeks, depending on how frequently it is used. Dust can often be wiped off dry to protect the surfaces. More cleaning won’t cause harm as long as the method is gentle and you avoid using too much moisture.
