Good morning everyone, I have a specific question regarding the cleaning of my Malm furniture from Ikea. Since it is made from coated particleboard, I want to avoid damaging or dulling the surface during cleaning. I am particularly interested in which cleaning products and methods are the gentlest to prevent scratches and to avoid affecting the paint or laminate. Additionally, I would like to know if there are any special cleaning tips for removing small stains such as coffee or oil without leaving any residue. I look forward to your informed advice and experiences!

Using baby powder as a tip for oil stains sounds interesting, but I would also appreciate opinions on whether it really leaves no marksBaby powder can absorb grease, yes. You sprinkle it on the fresh oil stain, let it sit, and then gently wipe it off. But be careful: rubbing too hard can damage the coating, and powder residues might remain embedded in the texture. Therefore, it’s better to work gently and use a soft cloth.

Are there substances I should definitely avoid?Definitely avoid solvents like acetone, alcohol, or harsh cleaners. Abrasive powders and rough sponges are also a no-go. These can damage the film and leave dull spots or scratches.

I sometimes use isopropanol, but only very carefully This is a workable approach, but only for targeted stains.
You should only use it when you are aware of the risk to the material because something particularly stubborn needs to be removed. It is not a cure-all.
Thanks to everyone! This is already very helpful. To summarize, I’ll use warm water with a mild detergent, a soft microfiber cloth, and gentle motions. For oil stains, I’ll carefully try baby powder, and for small stubborn spots, occasionally a lightly dampened cotton swab with isopropanol. Of course, all with caution to avoid damaging the coating. Perfect, this is exactly what I had in mind. I’ll be happy to get back in touch if I have any more questions!
