Hello everyone,
A few months ago, I bought an Ikea Platsa system, mainly used as storage for various items. Since these surfaces are used daily, I’m wondering: what is the best way to clean the surfaces of this system without damaging them or affecting the material texture?
I’m particularly looking for a cleaning solution that is suitable for the film coating and can withstand everyday use without problems. What products and methods would you recommend to remove dirt, fingerprints, or light scratches? Thanks in advance for your tips!

Hey Paujon1, great question! 😊
I always clean my Ikea PLATSA surfaces with a soft, slightly damp microfiber cloth. Avoid harsh cleaners to protect the laminate. If something stubborn is stuck on, I gently use a little dish soap diluted in water, then wipe and finally polish dry. This helps prevent streaks and keeps the surface looking good.
Most importantly: no scouring pads or aggressive chemicals, as they can damage the surface. For daily use, simply wiping dry regularly is really the best approach!

Hello Paujon1,
your question is very good and important, as the PLATSA surfaces with their foil coating can be sensitive. For daily cleaning, I recommend the following procedure:
- Use only soft, lint-free cloths (microfiber cloths are especially suitable here).
- Use lukewarm water or a mild soap solution, for example, a few drops of mild dishwashing liquid diluted in water.
- Avoid aggressive cleaners, bleach, or vinegar, as these can damage the foil.
- For stubborn stains, you can use a slightly damp cloth and more patience, without scrubbing.
- It is important to immediately dry the surfaces with a dry cloth after cleaning, especially around edges and joints, to prevent water damage.
This method preserves the surface and ensures a well-maintained appearance in the long term. Frequent use of harsh cleaners can damage the protective foil, often leading to peeling or discoloration.

"Use only soft, lint-free cloths (microfiber cloths work especially well here)."
Yes, those basics are really valuable! Additionally, fingerprints can be best removed by wiping in circular motions – it often ends up looking almost polished. 😁
