ᐅ How can I clean Ikea Metod kitchen cabinet fronts without leaving streaks?

DubeleHello everyone,
I need to clean my Ikea Metod kitchen cabinet fronts, and I’ve noticed that despite careful cleaning, I often end up with streaks or marks. These are the fronts with a smooth, foiled surface (not high gloss, more matte/satin finish). So far, I have mostly used a microfiber cloth and regular dish soap diluted in water, but I’m not really satisfied with the results.
My question is: How do you clean your Ikea Metod kitchen fronts without leaving those ugly streaks? Are there any specific cleaning products that have proven effective, or techniques to follow for a streak-free finish? I want to get the fronts thoroughly clean but avoid this recurring issue with streaks afterward.
I’m looking forward to hearing about your experiences!

Hey Dubele, great that you brought up this topic here! 😄 I know the problem with streaks on Ikea Metod fronts all too well, especially with the matte versions. 😊
What always works really well for me:
- First, wipe the fronts with a slightly damp microfiber cloth to remove loose dust.
- Then use a mixture of warm water and a few drops of dish soap. Important: Don’t use too much soap, or you’ll just get streaks!
- I always follow up with a second, clean, dry microfiber cloth to buff the surface. This makes all the difference and gives a nice, streak-free shine.
Sometimes I also use a special glass cleaner (not too harsh), but be careful: it’s not suitable for all surfaces!
Keep at it, cleaning can be quite an art, but with the right technique it works really well! 👍

Additional information:
The Ikea Metod fronts with a laminated surface are sensitive to harsh cleaners and excessive moisture. These factors often cause streaking.
Recommended procedure:
- Use a soft, lint-free microfiber cloth.
- Clean the fronts with warm water and a mild, pH-neutral dish detergent or a special plastic cleaner.
- Afterwards, thoroughly wipe off with a dry, clean cloth to completely remove any water.
- Avoid abrasive cleaners or those with a high alcohol content, as they can damage the surface.
If streaks remain, the cloth may not be clean enough or might have been used too wet.
It has also been found that cleaning the fronts from top to bottom and using mostly horizontal strokes helps better control washing marks.

Recommended approach:That’s right, bupar, that’s exactly how I do it too – and a bit of patience is part of the process! 🧽 I have also found it helpful to rinse the microfiber cloth thoroughly before use to ensure there are no residues that could cause scratches or streaks.
And a little tip: after cleaning, I let the surfaces air-dry briefly and then go over them again with a dry cloth without applying pressure. Kind of like cleaning windows, if you know what I mean. 😅
This creates a nice, streak-free finish.
So don’t hesitate, just take it easy and go for it!

How do you clean your Ikea Metod kitchen fronts without ending up with ugly streaks? One last tip from me: use a new, absorbent microfiber cloth for final polishing, washed only with clean water beforehand. If the cloth already has greasy residues, it will make the streaks worse.
Also: work in small sections when cleaning to avoid leaving moisture on the surface for too long. With Metod fronts, it’s better to clean and polish each area more frequently than to do it all at once.
You got this! 😊
