REGARNETHello everyone,
Some time ago, I installed an Ikea Metod kitchen and am now really happy with the design. However, I have noticed that the fronts—especially the white glossy ones—are quite prone to grease stains and fingerprints.
I am therefore looking for an effective yet very gentle cleaning method that does not damage or harm the surfaces. It would be great if you could share tips on which cleaning agents are suitable, how often the fronts should ideally be cleaned, and if there are any special tricks for stubborn dirt without affecting the seal or finish.
Additionally, I am interested to know if different cleaning procedures are required for the various Metod front materials (lacquer, foil, wood decor).
I look forward to your experiences and suggestions!

For cleaning Ikea Metod kitchen fronts, I recommend the following approach:
- Generally, a soft, damp microfiber cloth is the best choice to protect the surfaces.
- For daily cleaning, lukewarm water with a few drops of mild dish soap is sufficient.
- Stubborn grease stains can be gently removed with a mixture of water and vinegar (1:1); the vinegar helps dissolve grease without causing damage.
- For lacquered fronts, avoid abrasive cleaners and coarse sponges.
- Foil and wood-effect fronts require even more careful handling and should be wiped only with clear water if necessary.
- Avoid aggressive chemicals and ammonia-based products, as these can roughen the surface.
The cleaning frequency depends on usage; generally, weekly damp cleaning is advisable to prevent buildup.

I have had similar experiences with my Metod kitchen. It is important that you never scrub or scratch strongly while cleaning, as this can cause small scratches that become quickly visible.
For the different types of fronts, I use:
- Painted fronts: a damp microfiber cloth, with dish soap and water if needed
- Foil fronts: clean only with very little water and a soft cloth, do not soak
- Wood-effect fronts: wipe only dry or with minimal dampness and immediately dry to avoid water spots
If stains are very stubborn, you can carefully use a baking soda paste (baking soda mixed with a little water) as a gentle cleaner and wipe off immediately.
By the way: direct sunlight or heat can additionally damage the surfaces. That’s why regular gentle cleaning and avoiding too much moisture work best.

Additionally, a note on the use of vinegar: Although vinegar can dissolve grease, it should be used sparingly on lacquered Ikea Metod fronts. Frequent use may dull the finish. Therefore, it is better to apply it only selectively and immediately wipe off with clear water.
For foil fronts, I would strongly advise against using vinegar, as it can damage the adhesive layer underneath. In this case, be very careful and use only water.

It is also important to use heat-resistant cleaning agents. Some aggressive cleaners can damage the surface of Metod fronts due to heat or prolonged exposure.
In addition, with wood-effect fronts, there is a risk of water penetrating the edges and damaging them. Therefore, limit moisture exposure time and dry immediately.
For all fronts, I recommend using special furniture polish or finishing products only according to the manufacturer’s instructions and after testing on an inconspicuous area first.
