Hello everyone,

I have several IKEA Metod kitchen cabinets with glass fronts in my new kitchen, and I keep encountering a problem when cleaning them: how can I clean the glass fronts to be streak-free without causing fine scratches? I want to avoid harsh cleaners because the surface seems delicate.

Who has good experience with cleaning agents or special cleaning methods that are truly gentle but still make the glass shine without streaks? I look forward to practical tips and advice on what to pay special attention to while cleaning to protect the glass fronts in the long term.

I clean my IKEA Metod glass fronts exclusively with distilled water and a microfiber cloth. No chemicals. Immediately afterward, I dry them by rubbing with a second, dry microfiber cloth.

It is important that the cloth itself is extremely clean. The cloths also need to be washed regularly to ensure no dirt particles remain in the fibers.

I have no scratches, probably because I avoid scrubbing too hard.

As an additional note, I would like to point out that the method of cleaning plaster or render is often crucial:

- Never rub vigorously in circular motions; instead, clean gently with straight strokes from top to bottom.
- It is important to clean or replace cloths regularly: a dirty cloth will just spread the dirt around.
- Use just enough cleaning solution to keep the glass slightly damp but not wet.
- To avoid water spots, it can help to dry the glass immediately after cleaning.

I usually use a mild dishwashing liquid concentrate mixed with water in a ratio of 2–3 drops per 1 liter (0.26 gallons), which is more than sufficient. My microfiber cloth is extra fine and very soft; I have had similar experiences to yours with other cloths.

If you like, I can also provide recommendations for selecting suitable microfiber cloths.

I use a vinegar-based spray for my IKEA glass fronts, but highly diluted with water, and a soft microfiber cloth. Afterwards, I dry wipe to prevent streaks.

Wipe dry with a microfiber cloth without any cleaner. This prevents streaks and scratches.

I fully support this recommendation, especially regarding the dosage. Using more cleaner does not mean better cleaning; rather, it tends to leave more residue on the glass.

To avoid scratches, I also recommend never wiping dry or heavily soiled surfaces, as this does not remove small particles but instead spreads them around.

Finally, regular replacement of microfiber cloths and avoiding harsh chemicals significantly prolong the lifespan of glass surfaces.
