Hello everyone, I have a somewhat specific question about cleaning my Ikea Metod glass fronts: What is the gentlest way to clean them while ensuring a truly streak-free finish? It is important to me that no scratches occur and no unsightly streaks remain on the glass, especially since it is relatively frosted glass. So far, I have tried various products, from glass cleaners to vinegar water, but often a film sticks or slight streaks appear afterwards. Are there any special techniques or home remedies that have proven effective in everyday use? I look forward to your experiences and tips!

No chemicals, no problems. That makes sense in principle, but have you checked whether your matte surface might become duller over time if you consistently use only water?
Water alone sometimes doesn’t remove all organic residues, which can result in an unattractive film developing in the long run. Maybe it would be a good idea to schedule a more thorough cleaning once a month, without damaging the surface – perhaps with a mild soap solution?
Regarding gentle and streak-free cleaning: what do you think about methods using water with a splash of alcohol? I’ve heard some conflicting opinions on that.

On the topic of gentle and streak-free cleaning: What do you think about methods using water with a splash of denatured alcohol?Denatured alcohol can help in the short term because it evaporates quickly and leaves no major residues. However, it significantly affects matte finishes, so I would definitely not recommend using it on Ikea Metod fronts.
Your idea of using a mild soapy solution once a month is much more reasonable. Monthly cleaning with lukewarm water and a small amount of mild dish soap provides effective cleaning without damaging the material. Afterwards, wipe down thoroughly with clean water and dry immediately—this prevents streaks.
Regarding the microfiber debate: There are special microfiber cloths designed for polishing. These are woven a bit more tightly and help achieve a final streak-free finish.
Hey Peotu and all other cleaning pros here! 😄
I agree with KUDAISY—mild dish soap is the best friend for the matte Metod glass fronts. I swear by using minimal chemicals; otherwise, it ends up looking like you threw a mirror disco party.
And honestly—don’t skimp on the cloth! I once used a cheap microfiber cloth, and every second fiber ended up on the front. Since then, I only use really good quality cloths or even separate polishing cloths.
My little secret tip: after cleaning with a damp cloth, go over it again with an old-fashioned window leather chamois (that’s right, the classic kind with a folded edge)—this really tops it off when it comes to a streak-free finish 😎.
Give it a try!
