Hello everyone, I have installed the IKEA Metod glass fronts in my new kitchen and want to clean them as gently and effectively as possible without causing scratches.

Since glass can be sensitive, especially with surface treatments and frames, I would like to know which cleaning products and tools you recommend for the glass fronts.

I’m also interested in how you deal with stubborn stains like grease or water marks without using harsh chemicals that might eventually damage the glass or frames.

Perhaps you also have experience with home remedies or special care sprays that work well and don’t leave any residue or streaks.

Thank you very much for your tips!

Scratches are more likely caused by mechanical effects than by chemicals.

I agree with that, but why is the myth about dangerous ingredients still being spread? Whenever I look at the products directly from the manufacturer or IKEA, there are no warnings about ammonia or alcohol on Metod glass fronts.

The real culprit is improper cleaning technique: scratched surfaces result from abrasive sponges, wiping dry with dirt or dust, and drying too quickly in direct sunlight.

So my theory is: as long as the glass surface is handled carefully and with the right tools, most common cleaning agents are completely harmless.

Microfiber cloth, glass cleaner, or mild dishwashing detergent solution, then wipe dry. Do not use abrasive sponges or paper towels. That simple.

To prevent scratches proactively, you should especially keep the following points in mind:

- Do not use abrasive cleaners or scrubbing pads
- Use microfiber cloths only when they are clean and lint-free
- Avoid cleaning with circular or very harsh motions – instead, wipe straight and gently
- Avoid harsh chemicals that could damage sealants

Additionally, for heavier greasy dirt, I recommend a special glass cleaner that is silicone-free. Silicone residues can become unsightly over time and attract dust.

I understand how frustrating it can be to constantly have to be careful not to cause scratches. This is especially challenging with children or a busy kitchen.

What helps me is a simple routine:

- I wipe off fingerprints daily with a damp microfiber cloth (just water, no cleaning agents).
- Once a week, I use a mild glass cleaner to gently clean the surfaces and reduce light grease films.
- I avoid anything rough or that stirs up dust.

This way, I feel the surface stays fresh longer, and cleaning itself doesn’t become a hassle. Sometimes, these small daily tips make all the difference.

I completely agree. A gentle cleaning technique is essential. Additionally, I find it helpful to simply brush away coarse dirt dry before wiping. This prevents small particles from rubbing against the glass.

Also, to avoid water spots, I always try to dry wipe immediately after cleaning using a soft cloth. Otherwise, mineral deposits form quickly, especially if the water has a high mineral content.

Sometimes, it’s the small details that make for a perfect result.
