Good morning everyone,

I have a question that has been on my mind for a while: What is the best way to clean Ikea Metod fronts to effectively remove fingerprints without damaging the surface? My fronts are a high-gloss version, and unfortunately, fingerprints are very noticeable.

I want to avoid using aggressive cleaners that could harm or dull the fronts. Are there any specific methods or cleaning products that have proven effective? Ideally, I would also appreciate tips on how to regularly maintain the fronts to minimize the visibility of fingerprints.

I look forward to your experiences and recommendations!

Do not use abrasive sponges or cloths.

Thank you for the detailed instructions, Jensson. Does it matter if the microfiber cloth is more coarse or very fine? I only have a regular microfiber cloth, but it’s not ultra-soft.

Also, how often do you usually clean these surfaces to prevent fingerprints from becoming stubborn? Has anyone ever used a special polish to create some kind of protective film?

Regarding microfiber cloths: Ideally, use a very soft, lint-free cloth. Coarser cloths may cause microscopic scratches on the surface, which can be especially noticeable on high-gloss fronts.

As for cleaning frequency: I recommend cleaning high-gloss fronts at least once a week, or more often depending on usage intensity, to prevent grease and dirt buildup.

Polish or protective film: Although there are furniture polishes that create a protective layer, they are generally only partially suitable for plastic-coated high-gloss fronts. With Ikea Metod fronts, for example, polishes containing fats or waxes may form a dull film or become sticky.

A recommended alternative is a silicone-free plastic care product. It is best to test it first on an inconspicuous spot.

If you are interested in details on how to make your own cleaning solution, I will gladly provide them.

I agree with that. Additionally, a tip: microfiber cloths should only be washed without fabric softener, as it can leave residues and reduce their cleaning effectiveness.

It is also helpful to change the water occasionally while cleaning to prevent dirt particles from being spread onto the surface.

For the cleaning itself, a mild solution of water and dish soap is often sufficient, as it has enough power to remove oily fingerprints.

Hello Volkanbar,

I clean my Metod high-gloss fronts using a mixture of distilled water and a few drops of mild soap. Then I wipe the fronts with a microfiber cloth and immediately dry them with a soft, dry cloth. This helps prevent streaks and spots.

A small tip: Avoid spraying directly, as moisture can seep into the edges of the fronts and cause the material to swell.

A delicate touch is important here; too much pressure or abrasive cleaners can do more harm than good.

I usually clean my fronts once a week – then it’s mostly a breeze and the fingerprints aren’t that annoying. But wiping them dry briefly in between also helps a lot! Like a little mini cleaning meditation ;-)
