AlpayjanHello everyone,
I have several IKEA Brimnes wardrobe doors in my apartment made of white laminated wood-based material that I need to clean regularly. My main concern is not damaging the surface, as it seems quite delicate and small scratches or dull spots become visible very quickly.
So my specific question is: How can I clean IKEA Brimnes fronts as gently and effectively as possible without harming the laminate or damaging the surface? Are there any particular cleaning agents or methods that have proven to work well?
I would also appreciate tips on how to handle tougher stains without being too harsh. I look forward to your feedback and experiences with similar surfaces.

When cleaning IKEA BRIMNES fronts, caution is advised as they are usually melamine-coated or laminated surfaces that can be easily scratched. Here is my recommendation:
- First, use a soft, lint-free cloth (microfiber is ideal).
- Slightly dampen the cloth with clear water or a mild soapy solution.
- Gently wipe the surfaces without rubbing.
- Avoid aggressive cleaning agents such as alcohol-based or abrasive products.
- For tougher stains, you can use a solution of water with a very small amount of dish soap, then wipe again with a damp cloth.
As a general rule, do not use scouring agents or abrasive sponges. This will help preserve the furniture and keep the laminate intact.

- Avoid using harsh cleaning agents such as products containing alcohol or abrasive substances.I would like to add: Many people underestimate how easily the film on BRIMNES can be damaged by strong chemicals or excessive mechanical force. A common mistake is using all-purpose cleaners with ammonia or alcohol, which clean well but can damage the protective coating.
Best practice:
- Lightly dampen a cloth with lukewarm water
- Gently rub stubborn spots with a microfiber cloth
- Immediately wipe dry afterwards to prevent noticeable water stains
Another tip: Avoid paper towels, as they are too rough and can cause micro-scratches.
I would like to add that it is generally important not to use too much water. Especially with laminated fronts, you should be careful to prevent any liquid from seeping into joints or edges, as this can cause the laminate to peel off.
Gentle cleaning can also be done with anything mild enough, for example, the above-mentioned mixture of water and a few drops of dish soap is often sufficient.
If you accidentally clean too aggressively and the surface appears slightly dull, lightly damp cloths followed by gentle polishing without pressure can help. However, only treat the flat surfaces to avoid damaging the laminate.

Does anyone know if it’s possible to occasionally use wood care oils or special furniture polishes on the BRIMNES laminate? Some of my cabinet fronts show slight dull areas, and I’m wondering if that could be fixed this way without damaging the surface.
