botra48Hello everyone,
I have owned several IKEA Besta furniture pieces for some time and have been regularly cleaning them. I have noticed that despite normal care, dirt sometimes becomes stubborn—whether it’s grease stains, dust, or minor scratches from daily use. My question is: How can I effectively clean IKEA Besta furniture from dirt without damaging the surface?
I am particularly interested in which cleaning agents are suitable, if there are any special care products or home remedies that are gentle but effective, and the best approach to different types of stains without harming the glossy or matte finishes.
I look forward to your tips and experiences!

Your question is really important because using the wrong products can quickly cause damage! I always recommend starting with a soft microfiber cloth and lukewarm water. This gently cleans most surfaces.
For stubborn stains, I like to add a little mild dish soap to the water. It works really well without damaging the surface! Then just wipe again with clean water and dry thoroughly.
Important: Never use harsh cleaners or abrasive agents, as they can ruin the protective film on the Besta furniture! And definitely avoid using alcohol or ammonia, as these can leave unpleasant dull spots!
Good luck and keep it up – your furniture will thank you! 😄

Hello botra48,
I would like to add to jordanvin’s advice. IKEA Besta furniture usually has a melamine or foil coating, which can be sensitive to moisture. Therefore, I recommend keeping the following points in mind:
- Always clean with a well-wrung cloth to avoid water accumulation.
- For grease or oil stains, use a mild, pH-neutral cleaning agent diluted with water.
- Always test new products on an inconspicuous area before treating the entire surface.
- Avoid abrasive sponges or stiff brushes, as they can scratch the surface.
If you notice minor scratches or dull spots caused by incorrect cleaning, a polish designed for plastic surfaces may help—however, use it carefully to prevent further damage.
Using a soft cloth after cleaning can also help maintain the shine.
Best regards

Avoid scouring pads or stiff brushes, as they can scratch the surface.I completely agree. Clean by hand using a soft, damp cloth.
- Do not use abrasive cleaning agents
- Dry after cleaning
- For grease stains, use a mild dishwashing detergent
That's all it takes.

If you follow this sequence:
- first remove dust
- then gently clean with a mildly diluted dishwashing detergent
- afterwards wipe down with clean water
- finally dry thoroughly
it works perfectly!
And don’t be afraid to try it – this way your furniture will stay looking great for a long time! 👍

Also, for stubborn dirt, it’s better to avoid aggressive cleaners and instead let the cleaning agent sit for several minutes before cleaning.
For matte surfaces, lukewarm water with a bit of mild detergent often works better than regular dishwashing liquid.
I also recommend testing the product on a small area first to avoid any discoloration.
