Hello everyone,

I have a question about my Ikea Metod kitchen cabinet fronts, which unfortunately get greasy quite quickly, especially after cooking and frying in the kitchen. My goal is to thoroughly clean these greasy surfaces without leaving any residue or causing the surface to become dull or sticky.

So far, I usually use regular dish soap diluted with water, but often streaks or a slightly sticky film remain after drying.

Does anyone have tips or specific cleaning products and methods that work really well to get the Metod fronts grease-free and streak-free? It is also important to me that the surface is not damaged, so no harsh agents that might harm the coating.

Thanks in advance for your recommendations!

Hello marcno,

Your question is very well formulated, and I understand the issue with greasy Metod fronts — I’ve experienced that as well. The most important thing is to use the right cleaning agents, as these fronts are either lacquered or melamine-coated and can be sensitive to harsh cleaners.

I recommend the following approach:

- First, use a mixture of warm water and a mild dish soap (make sure it is grease-cutting but not too aggressive).
- Use a soft cloth or a microfiber cloth that absorbs excess water well.
- After wiping with the soapy water, be sure to wipe again with clean water to remove any residue.
- Finally, dry the surface thoroughly with a clean, dry microfiber cloth to prevent streaks.

If the fronts are very greasy, adding a splash of vinegar to the water can also help dissolve grease without being too harsh. However, test carefully to ensure the surface tolerates this.

It is also very important to never use abrasive scrubbing agents or solvents like acetone, as these can damage the surface coating.

Hope this helps you!

Short and simple:

- Warm water + mild dish soap
- Wipe again with clean water
- Dry with a microfiber cloth

For heavy grease stains: test a vinegar-water mixture. Do not use abrasive cleaners.

Hello everyone,

I completely understand how frustrating it can be to put a lot of effort into cleaning the Ikea Metod fronts and still end up with those unpleasant residues. In my experience, both the choice of cleaning agent and the cleaning technique play a major role.

You should never soak the fronts with too much moisture or clean them while they are wet, as this can lead to water spots later on and damage the coating. I also always wipe in gentle, even strokes and never scrub too hard to avoid damaging the surface.

One small tip: if grease is very stubborn, I like to use a spray bottle with a vinegar-water mixture (about 1 part vinegar to 3 parts water) and lightly spray the fronts, let it sit for about 2 minutes, then wipe them down with a damp microfiber cloth.

Unfortunately, this method does not work for everyone, so I think it’s important to always test first on an inconspicuous spot. It’s also important to immediately dry the surface with a dry cloth after cleaning to avoid leaving any residues.

I hope this gives you a bit of encouragement for your cleaning! We all have our little battles with the kitchen.
