I recently installed several Ikea Brimnes furniture pieces in my rental apartment, mainly cabinets and dressers with coated surfaces. Since I want to keep the furniture looking nice for a long time without scratches or surface wear, I’m looking for well-founded care tips that also take the rental situation into account—meaning, for example, avoiding products that deeply penetrate the surface or could damage the finish, while still providing lasting protection. What are your best recommendations for cleaning, maintaining, and protecting the surfaces of BRIMNES furniture? If you have experience with specific cleaners, home remedies, or suitable polishes, please share the details. I’m also interested in any advice you have for minimizing damage during moves or when emptying the furniture. Thanks in advance!

Maintaining Ikea BRIMNES furniture in rental apartments requires careful handling, as the furniture typically features a melamine-coated surface that is durable but not indestructible. For cleaning, I recommend a gentle approach: - Use a soft, damp cloth with clean water and, if necessary, a mild dish soap. Avoid harsh cleaners, abrasive pads, or solvents, as these can damage the surface. - After cleaning, always wipe the furniture with a dry cloth to prevent moisture damage. - Special furniture polishes based on wax or silicone are generally not suitable for protecting this surface, as they may leave residues and have little effect on melamine finishes. If protection is desired, I suggest using felt pads under objects or avoiding direct contact with hot or wet items. When moving, all furniture parts should be carefully padded. Very important: do not overtighten screws to avoid damaging the material.

Oh, this topic is really important, thanks for bringing it up! I can only confirm: a damp, not soaking-wet cloth with some mild soap works well for BRIMNES 😉. It’s also important to wipe it dry immediately afterward, otherwise white water spots can remain visible.

Exactly, don’t use aggressive cleaners! I’ve also had good experiences with vinegar diluted with water, but use it very lightly and sparingly!

And hey, during moves—always pack well! The furniture is great, but it’s not designed for rough handling. A little care saves a lot!

Best:
- Clean with a soft cloth and water
- Do not use harsh cleaners
- Attach felt pads underneath
- Do not place heavy or hot objects directly on it
This way, BRIMNES furniture stays in good condition for a long time in rental apartments.

The coating of the Ikea BRIMNES furniture is melamine resin, which is scratch-resistant but not completely impervious. A few targeted care measures can help:

- Regularly dust or clean with a damp microfiber cloth.
- For more stubborn dirt, use a mild, pH-neutral cleaner, but always sparingly.
- Avoid polishing wax cloths or polishes, as they tend to leave unsightly streaks.
- Since these are rental apartment furniture, keep in mind that strong chemical products or wax coatings can cause issues when moving out. Repair kits for melamine surfaces (e.g., pens or paste) are useful for small scratches.
- For transport, I recommend: loosening all screws, packing individual parts well, and using felt pads at contact points to prevent scratches.

I would not recommend polishes but rather work preventively with protective pads and handle liquids carefully.
