kar_liHello everyone,
I am planning to equip my kitchen with IKEA Metod kitchen cabinets, and it is especially important to me to make the best use of the available storage space. However, I am unsure how to arrange and organize the modules to maximize space for pots, food supplies, and kitchen utensils—without sacrificing comfort and functionality.
I am particularly interested in whether there are specific combinations of base cabinets, drawers, or internal solutions that are especially suitable for maximizing storage. Tips on accessories such as internal drawers, shelving systems, or dividers would also be helpful. Additionally, I would like to know if certain installation methods or clever use of corners can create more space.
I look forward to your experiences, recommendations, and perhaps examples of how you have organized your Metod kitchen to get the most out of it. Thank you!

Hi kar_li,
your question is really great! IKEA Metod offers so many options that it can be a bit overwhelming – but that’s exactly what makes it exciting. 😄
I would definitely recommend using pull-outs, and not just the standard drawers, but also the tall pull-outs for pots or the large baking tray pull-out, as they make really clever use of a lot of storage space. If you have corners, it’s worth investing in a carousel cabinet or at least pull-outs with telescopic slides – this really maximizes storage capacity.
For the inside, dividers or compartment separators help a lot to keep things from getting all mixed up and make everything easy to find. Sometimes people underestimate how much unused space there is at the top of drawers when no organizing solutions are installed. This way, you practically always have everything within reach and nothing gets lost in the depths.
It sounds like a lot of work, but it’s like crafting with results. Have fun planning!

Good morning kar_li,
to approach an IKEA Metod kitchen installation with maximum storage space in a truly systematic way, I recommend the following steps:
- First, measure and plan the kitchen precisely, especially the widths, heights, and depths of the base cabinets. Metod offers modules 40, 60, and 80 cm wide (16, 24, and 31.5 inches), with different heights (40, 80, 100 cm; 16, 31.5, 39.5 inches) and usually a depth of 60 cm (24 inches).
- Base cabinets with full-extension drawers are essential, as they allow access to the entire 60 cm (24 inches) depth.
- Installing internal pull-outs in tall cabinets for pantry storage is very space-efficient because the shelves are optimally utilized.
- Corner cabinets: rotating carousels or LeMans pull-outs significantly increase storage capacity and make otherwise hard-to-reach corners easier to use.
- Wider drawers (60 or 80 cm; 24 or 31.5 inches) use more floor space and, thanks to tall drawers, offer a higher load capacity.
- Additional organizational aids such as baskets, cutlery trays, or pot inserts help keep things organized without wasted space.
Be sure to consider the fronts and worktops early in the planning to make the best use of the space. And remember: sometimes it’s better to have fewer modules with more pull-outs than many small compartments that leave too much “dead space” behind.
If you like, I can gladly provide you with a sample layout as an example.

I faced the same challenge with my kitchen: initially, I planned many compartments with doors and fewer drawers but quickly realized that the storage space was poorly usable.

If you have corners, investing in a carousel cabinet or at least drawers with telescopic slides is worth it – it really maximizes the storage space.A small addition: from my experience, you should make sure the carousel cabinet is solidly built; cheaper versions sometimes get stuck.
What also helped me: internal drawers for spices and small utensils ensure no space is wasted, as they fully utilize the often neglected area between drawer depth and front panel.
I understand that it can feel overwhelming at first to decide what and how much to choose. My advice: plan with a bit more space and modular solutions that can be added later. Flexibility is invaluable here.
