Hello everyone,
I recently purchased cabinets from the Ikea Pax series with wood finishes. I understand that wood or wood surfaces require special care to prevent drying out, staining, or discoloration. My question is:
What is the best way to maintain Ikea Pax wood surfaces to keep them looking good and durable over time? Are there specific cleaning products recommended, or are solvent-free household remedies better? And what about mechanical care, such as wiping, polishing, or occasional oiling?
I would appreciate detailed tips, including any dos and don’ts if possible. Thanks in advance!

Hello Saumin,
to answer your question about caring for the Ikea Pax wood surfaces conclusively:
Most Pax models do not have real wood surfaces but coated or laminated finishes. Therefore, the care instructions are different from those for solid wood:
- Avoid standing moisture to prevent damage to the laminate.
- Use a soft cloth, preferably microfiber, and lukewarm water with a mild detergent or dish soap.
- Always dry immediately after cleaning.
- For stubborn stains, gently use a damp sponge with mild soap – do not use abrasive sponges.
- Do not use waxes, oils, or varnish care products, as the surface is not designed for them and could be damaged.
I personally care for my Pax cabinets this way, and they still look good after years. The most important thing is gentle handling. Hope this helps!
