Hello everyone,

I am planning to buy an IKEA Brimnes furniture piece (specifically a BRIMNES wardrobe with drawers) and wanted to ask: What is the best way to assemble the furniture alone without making the work unnecessarily difficult or risking mistakes?

I have some DIY skills and basic tools at home, but due to the size of the wardrobe, I am concerned that handling it alone during assembly could be very challenging. Are there any special techniques to keep in mind?

I am particularly interested in tips for preparation, the order of assembly, practical tricks for installing the drawers, and how to safely and securely put the furniture together on my own. Any advice on critical stages where help is usually needed would also be very valuable.

Thank you in advance!

And hey, if you put on a catchy groove with your favorite music, the whole process goes a lot easier.

Sure, a good mood really helps! Sometimes I also work with a snack and break schedule—small energy boosts and breaking the assembly into stages make a huge difference.

A quick tip: use non-slip gloves when handling wood and metal parts. They protect your hands and provide a better grip.

Regarding handling: if you have a sturdy director’s chair or a rolling stool, you can sit while working and move more easily without constantly kneeling or bending over.

Also keep in mind that IKEA furniture often uses clever snap-fit connections—so definitely avoid forcing screws and work more gently.

Good luck!

Hello elpetrit,

I have assembled IKEA furniture alone many times, including the Brimnes series. For me, the most important points are:

- Attach the back panel only at the end, not beforehand. This makes it easier to align the side panels and improves stability.
- Use a spirit level or ruler for alignment to avoid tilted cabinets.
- If the furniture becomes very heavy, carefully lay it on its side and complete the assembly there, where possible.

Is "assembling alone" not a contradiction considering the size of the BRIMNES wardrobe?

That greatly depends on your experience and the space available. I have been assembling alone for years and rarely needed help.

If you realize it is not possible, it’s better to ask someone to help lift for a moment – this also prevents injuries.

All the best!

Use tape or targeted weights if needed to keep parts in place.

This is a very practical method that I often recommend myself. Especially with longer side panels or the floor panel, clamps or painter’s tape are very helpful to hold the parts together temporarily before screwing them in.

Also:
- Work on a flat, clean surface.
- Take your time and avoid rushing.
- If screws are difficult to turn, check whether they are properly aligned before applying force – this helps prevent damage.

Keep in mind that carefully following the assembly instructions is the best guarantee for a stable result.

Wishing you a successful build!
