Hello everyone, I’m about to assemble the IKEA Brimnes wardrobe and I really want to avoid scratching the surfaces during assembly. I have built furniture before, but especially with more affordable pieces like this one, I find it quite frustrating when scratches occur, as they tend to be very noticeable.

I’m interested in what precautions you take when assembling the Brimnes wardrobe to prevent scratches on the white surface. Are there specific techniques, tool settings, or materials you use to protect the wood parts? Maybe tips on how to best handle the edges and the coating?

I would appreciate practical, experience-based advice to help me achieve the best possible result with my wardrobe.

In addition to the previous posts, I would like to point out that some users have had positive experiences using edge protectors or adhesive tape.

Handling: Try to deliberately hold the components by the edges rather than on the surface

This exactly supports the idea of protecting the edges additionally. Simply use painter’s tape (wide tape) to cover the critical areas, especially when several people are working on the same component at the same time. This can prevent scratches and abrasion.

For the floor, I would also recommend layering with protective coverings and possibly additional cardboard in case the covering shifts.

Don’t worry, with steady hands and good preparation, this works smoothly!

I know all too well how stressful it can be when you’re assembling furniture and worried that scratches might spoil the fun.

And I always had a small box with microfiber cloths ready, in case something slipped, to quickly clean carefully without rubbing.

That’s a valuable tip! Cleaning right after minor mishaps really makes a difference. I can also add that it’s important to check screws for damage before driving them in—I once used the wrong screw and it caused small paint scratches.

Just use painter’s tape (wide type) to mask off the critical areas

I can definitely recommend that too, maybe not everywhere, but absolutely on the edges that are often touched.

In the end, it really helps to take your time and not see the assembly as stressful, but rather as a small task that can be managed well with patience.
