Hello everyone,

I am currently planning to assemble an IKEA Platsa cabinet system and want to avoid any damage to the individual components or their surfaces. Especially with furniture made from various panel materials, often painted or laminated, I have frequently experienced small scratches, dents, or even damaged drill holes during assembly that are difficult or require significant effort to repair later on.

My question to you is: What specific tips and proven methods are there to minimize the risk of damage when assembling IKEA Platsa? I am particularly interested in techniques for preparing the work surface, the proper handling of tools, the treatment of individual parts during assembly, as well as safety measures to prevent material damage or incorrect installation.

I look forward to your advice and shared experiences!

Hello Wolframvin,

your question is very precisely formulated, which is good, because there are some tricky points with the Platsa.

First, I recommend spreading out all the individual parts on a clean, flat, and well-padded surface. Avoid hard surfaces like stone or tiles without protection to prevent abrasion or pressure marks. A few old blankets or a large foam mat work well.

Be sure to work carefully with tools and use hand force whenever possible, especially when screwing in screws. Avoid applying too much force with electric drills to prevent damaging the drill holes.

It is also important to follow the assembly instructions carefully and sort all parts and screws beforehand. This prevents hurried guessing, which usually leads to damage.

Finally, I recommend removing any protective film only at the very end, if present, to avoid scratches caused by accidental slips.

Hello,

my experience: Always pay attention to the torque limit when using a cordless drill. Pre-drill screws by hand on delicate surfaces.

Prepare the workspace with enough space and protection. This helps to avoid scratches and damage.

Good luck!

I can only emphasize that! When I built the Platsa without much experience, that advice came too late – I ended up with a few small dents that annoyed me.

What also helped me a lot: Take your time during assembly and don’t apply force if something doesn’t fit right away. It’s really better to double-check everything than to force parts together.

That’s exactly what I did, and it really preserved the surface well.

I know assembly can sometimes be tiring and frustrating, but with patience and respect for the materials, it definitely goes much smoother – just take it step by step.
