Hello everyone,

I recently purchased a Pax wardrobe from Ikea and now face the task of correctly installing the sliding doors without compromising their functionality. Specifically, I want to mount the doors so that they move smoothly and easily, without sticking or coming off the track.

Since I prefer to work independently from the instructions, it would be great if someone with experience could share useful tips on how to properly adjust and secure the sliding doors to prevent the guide rails from jamming or the door mechanism from being damaged. Are there any particular considerations regarding the choice of screws or door positioning to keep in mind?

Thank you in advance!

Hanging the doors on the Pax system requires careful attention: It’s best to start with the door that will be positioned on the far left. First, hook it into the upper track from above, then make sure the bottom rollers are securely fitted into the lower track.

To protect the door frames, I recommend holding the doors at a slight angle and avoiding forcing them into place. If you have someone to help, one person can hold the door while the other guides the rollers into the tracks.

The adjustment screws are located at the bottom of the door, allowing precise height adjustment. Some models also have spacers on the side to ensure smooth running. Avoid applying too much pressure when fitting, as this can wear out the rollers unnecessarily quickly.

Regularly check that the door moves smoothly and that the tracks are not bent during the process.

It’s always fascinating how small details can make a big difference when installing sliding doors! 😌

My tip: Use a clean cloth under the door when placing it on the floor to avoid scratches on the bottom frame. Even better: place the doors on a few towels to make handling easier.

On which side should you start hanging, and are there any techniques that make handling the comparatively heavy doors easier?

I would also support PULAU’s suggestion. If you take this step calmly, you’re already halfway there. And of course, don’t use too much force—better to readjust again than risk damaging something 😉

Another important tip regarding installation: Make sure not to apply too much lateral pressure to the doors while adjusting them.

Also check the correct installation of the top and bottom rollers, as they play a key role in smooth operation.

Therefore, I recommend rechecking the rollers after the initial installation to ensure they rotate freely and do not stick. A misaligned or damaged roller increases friction, which negatively affects functionality.

If necessary, the rollers can be replaced over time due to wear. The quality of the rollers is crucial to avoid loss of performance.
